Sir, I have been admiring your art for some time. Not sure why someone would give you a thumbs down for this video. Not sure why you or I should care-thumbs up, thumbs down, nonsense. I learn from you with every frame. A neophyte to painting and watercolor, I first found your narrative confusing and contradictory, like the first time a jazz musician told me that music is a language. I simply was too green and could not understand. But like jazz at a young age for me, the more I listen to you and watch and learn: understand how you build a painting, how you allow for the unexpected and choose to either use it or not; the more I learn the language of your art, it all becomes more and more clear and my appreciation for how you turn a white sheet into an expressive visual emotion just illuminates and impresses the hell out of me. Thank you for being so accessible online. You are very much appreciated.

I love your style. It is how I long to paint. Night scenes are my favorite, but so far, they have eluded me. You make it look so easy, but I know how difficult it is. I appreciate your showing the photo. I like seeing how you’ve used it without slavishly copying it. Thank you for this informative demo and for your words of encouragement.

Gary this is just a stunning piece. It is like magic and it never ceases to amaze me how a few well placed swipes of the brush can become something easily recognizable. Thank you for narrating. 1000 paintings, before I don't feel like I have to think about every thing I do. Okay 700 more to go!

It's great to see in many of your videos how to apply the method of thinking in layers. It's a technique I still try to master and slowly get there by watching your videos. The hardest part is judging and getting the values right as every additional layer is going darker and darker. I guess that comes with more practice and experience.

You make me want to go to Paris again. It's been too long ago. Great lesson. Even as a beginner I learn a lot. Hearing you say that after about a *thousand* paintings you will get a feeling for things doesn't scare me because I know it from other art mediums I work with / in.

Wondering if you used some sort of resist on those places that looked like dry brush effects. I ask because all of your paint looked very juicy in the first wash. Maybe the sped up video?

Interesting comments on the mental side of gaining experience. I just read a great book that goes into great depth on the subject called Incognito: The Sectret Lives of the Brain, by David Eagleman. To summarise the book: we're all robots.

I don't see the ever-present paper towel or blotter that many artists rely on while creating. I thought that was different, possibly takes a little more bravery.
