I'd be careful about telling artists to find a business partner. That's how a lot of artists and musicians end up getting screwed. You see actors/musicians/etc that are bankrupt even though they've made millions, because they trusted someone else with their money and the products of their labor that they've worked so hard on. Generally people that are into finance, don't add much value, they just know how to work the system and move money around, they don't actually produce anything. If you're going to find a partner, make sure this person is doing just as much work as you, and is just as committed, and HONEST. I've had people try to take me for a ride as an artist. At the end of the day, I learned that I need to learn how to be a business person and know how to market myself, if I'm ever going to get where I really want to go. If you don't know how to manage your business as an artist, how are you ever going to be able to make sure someone else is managing them properly? Do you really want someone selling licenses for your stuff to make a sale without being knowledgeable about the terms your agreeing to? These are the types of things artists like to avoid getting into but are necessary to know about.

Your advice charges my core. The thing is I always knew I will succeed, and listening to somebody who’s had the same belief is an affirmation in on itself. What I learned in 2017 is that change is as easy as much as we believe it to be. The thing is, that teaching along lead me to think, what if all other things were as easy as we believed them to be, and that thought spread like a virus in my mind, and the thing is, it has completely changed my attitude to becoming the exact version of my hustler self that I always wanted to be. You are changing lives Gary, and if anything, I am so grateful for you!

Thanks to my sister sharing this a couple weeks ago, I am now addicted to your show and want to go back and watch all your videos from the beginning and can't wait. Gary, you are my opposite, I suffered with severe social anxiety for 24 years (much better now but have a ways to go) and am a creative, not an operator. I love that I can learn so much from you. How to love myself even the parts others may hate. And not only that, but appreciate everyone... lovers or haters. And I'm hoping to become smarter from watching your videos. Although even if I don't, I find them so entertaining. You are awesome.

Hey Gary, I'm a lawyer and I love your content! You are amazing. The "no B.S." attitude is really refreshing to someone like me where pretty much everybody is lying to me on some level. Sometimes, when it is particularly bad, I can hear a little Gary Vee voice in my head that wants to say "You have got to be f****ing kidding me! You can't be serious!!!" That sort of thing is generally frowned upon in courtrooms! Keep it up!!!

Thank you SO MUCH for the answer to the creatives question… I've been struggling trying to make myself think in a more "business/entrepreneurial" way and it just doesn't come naturally to me…. I'd much rather (and feel WAY more comfortable) spending my time and energy striving to go from 8 to 12 in what I'm gifted at rather than spending all that same time trying to go from 0 to 2 in the business and sales skills. Hearing you say that is a big relief! I just want to create. :) And I feel like I'm still getting amazing value from you that I can implement into how I share my content but I feel a weight lifted that I can just own the fact that I do not have an entrepreneur mind set. Yay! haha…

What is it about Gary that "catches" us? I wasnt digging his ego the first time I heard him talk, but now I get it. The ego is a way to tell people "I DO KNOW MY SHIT, and YOU KNOW I KNOW, and because I KNOW YOU KNOW I KNOW, I know you're going to listen if you like me or not"
@xamaranto8 жыл бұрын
+The New Travel Blog Haha, it's funny what different people see in him in first impressions - I think there's ego there, but I think when you look past it he's more humble overall than he is egotistical. He's just confident and knows himself. What hooked me on him in the very beginning without knowing anything about him but then seeing him talk, was his character - he's genuine and you can tell he's answering questions right from his own brain/intuition a lot of the time, and not solely rattling off of things he's gotten from other people or external sources. Humility was actually the first thing I saw in him

Gary, first time I ever heard of you was when I saw you in person. Professor "Coach" Boyer at Virginia Tech and his class invited you to Blacksburg to talk about wine and all things Gary Vee. As a local, I knew Professor Boyer makes magic happen and was able to score a ticket even though I had no clue who you were or what you did. I was mesmerized with what you were saying and became an immediate fan at your live keynote. As someone who had just left my job to start my own company, I took a lot of your advice to heart even though you scared the crap out of my with your discussion about advertising being dead (my company's revenue model is based on advertising). Since then I've listened to most of your keynotes, purchased all your books and am a regular viewer of the AskGaryVee show. Thanks for all that you do!

If I were available and won, I would have gone into it like a sponge, ready to soak up all the knowledge I possibly could. My big takeaway from this episode has to do with what you said about sending love to those who have shared the show on Facebook. A while back I commented about having to catch up on the show and you actually replied. I could not believe how much that tiny interaction meant to me, I felt like a total fanboy! You're a busy dude who I respect very much and you took 20 seconds of your day to acknowledge me... I'm shocked at how great that felt. Thank you, Gary :).

If I am being completely honest, when I first was shown one of your videos I was like "Whoa" I thought wow he swears a lot and is very full on. :) But I liked what you had to say and that drew me in to watch another video, and another video and it didn't take long to realise that you are an incredibly authentic human being. Who actually loves humans and wants everyone to succeed. You aren't a life coach who has a little certificate you have actually lived an experience and continue to live it and you are offering so much good advice thats really quite simple, but we like to complicate things. Thanks for being you and always having that fun and random nature just showing yourself in your pure raw form. You have taught me how to document instead of create and for that which I am still mastering of course but I am on the right path. Oh and how to do exactly what I do best and stay in my lane. Thank you Gary!

I love how ***** is his own hugest fan :) Nobody enjoys Gary's answers as much as himself and he'll sure as hell tell ya! lol. If anyone wanted to take a selfie with me (presumably my fans not just some random dude off the street), I'll do what they want as my "line in the sand" is making sure when the fan walks away they're mumbling to their friend "dude, that was awesome." Being yourself when in front of someone you've put on a pedestal is definitely hard, but if you've been doing a lot of work with teams, groups and have done some presentation you've probably already found who you are and are okay with bean yourself. When I meet someone of some fame (and that can be different for everyone) I just act as if I know the person yet still am appreciative of what they've done. Maybe I just feel like I'm better than them? :)

#QOTD Nobody in my family is a lawyer, I wish there was, it'd make business easier. ***** this is easily one of the best episodes of the #AskGaryVee show. As a creative entrepreneur I can honestly say that what you were saying is spot on. I often find that some of my fellow creatives are more romantic about things and that as a result they leave a lot on the table, or don't scale to where there talents would otherwise take them. With that said, I've been keeping an eye on India's artwork and photography and I'm really curious to see what happens there and how hanging around you influences her as a creative where the biz side is concerned.... #VaynerNation do you think India should turn her creative talents into business? and would you be interested in commissioning her for artwork?

I dig the advice to creatives to hire someone for business... Finding a legit partner can be dicey if you're a networking fearing introvert (which lots of creatives are) and a little dangerous if you don't have great business judgement, hiring or "hiring" someone mitigates that.

I think the biggest problem creatives have, is that they hire someone with their own vision. The best partners to have are those who make your vision theirs or at least submit their vision to yours. But two brains pulling in opposite directions is just leading to failure. The hard part, is that as business minded people and creatives. We naturally attract other business minded people and creatives. When you make a friend list of leaders, you dont make room for the followers you need to help you with the ground work. Just my opinion...

That was then and now I watch your shows, keynotes, read your tweets and actually look up to you. This changed for me because I was speaking at a workshop for a local chamber of commerce. At the end of the workshop a business man came up to me and said I was cocky, egotistical and extremely unprofessional. I was so mad, not at what he said, because he judged me without actually knowing me. I immediately remembered how I judged you, along with several other speakers and presenters. That day I watched several of your keynotes and realized that what you were saying was extremely valuable so I became a fan. I know this is a long comment but I had to explain. I'm surprised to hear that people initially reacted against what they perceived to be bravado/ego on stage. I'm not sure why, but despite all the awesome content over many shows, pro-hustle wisdom and business advice, my favourite piece is still the first one I saw, where you implored people to Stop Doing Sh!t they Hate [was on stage, wearing a brown tshirt], back in the post Crush It era. Messages _need_ to hit hard to be effective, and that message hit very hard - perhaps those early haters didn't like where that message led their introspection and reacted by criticising the messenger instead of working to fix their own lives.
