Just to clarify a few things - this junction in Aylesbury is very busy and to make things worse there are roadworks going on. At the start of the video it is just members of the public in their cars doing their best to coordinate with each other to get out of the area. It was pretty clogged up but eventually everyone was able to get out of there. The fire had started just moments before I began filming so emergency services had only just been alerted. The police station is just out of view to the left so they were quick to respond. The fire station is located across town and they came about 5 minutes later. By that time the danger had passed and they helped clear the zone. Everything was back to normal within about 30 minutes.

There is an article from the BBC 35 minutes ago, and it was a gas cannister the road repainting team were using. It had set fire to other equipment, and that explosion was the cannister, as in the picture there is a hole in the side of the burnt cannister.

That’s why the fire went out after the canister exploded: it was only the gas which was burning and the explosion allowed all the gas to escape and burn up.

Once had one go up at a hotel chain I used to work for, roofers left the tar boiler alight on the roof when they went for their break. The gas line ruptured, the cylinder caught light and started venting as seen in this video. Eventually the heat got too much for the cylinder which fully ruptured, this went skywards and landed 700m away in a car park of a nearby office block. The tar caught light as well which then set fire to the roof of the hotel and floor below.

BLEVE: Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion. Spark ignites leaking flammable vapours, flame heats cannister, liquid gas boils,gas expands, pressure builds, leak gets bigger, flame gets bigger and hotter, accelerating the gas expansion, this cycle continues until pressure ruptures the tank instantly spraying and vaporising remaining fluid and creating the boom and fireball. The power of these explosions is mind-boggling.( technically; deflagration a extremely fast burn because the gasses are not contained at moment of detonation/ignition ). I find these as fascinating as I find them hell a scary. Witnessed several small one's(camping gas, garden weed burners, plumbers torch etc. and two large enough to warrant emediate evaquation of a large food production facility and car body shop/ RV repair shop.

That sound is a pressure release valve on a small to medium sized bottle of gas. It was not a big bottle and the pressure release valve stopped it from fully exploding. .

You can clearly hear the pressure relief valve on the cylinder operating when the filming starts. As the body of the cylinder continues to heat up due to whatever was on fire around it the cylinder reaches failure point causing the explosion.

Well Aylesbury voted 3 times as the worst town in England all you ever hear is the wailing of sirens as people are stabbed killed or injured a grim place with undoubtedly the most appalling road system, no by- pass just dreams oh then to top it off you have HS2 destroying everything disrupting traffic closing roads causing mayhem you must be crazy to live there and don't by a house for God's sake ...a total sewage dump. Considering how close the first cop parked, they were very likely attending a different call. The tank had probably already exploded by the time you managed to described where you are to the call handler, also, unless you were on the other side, it would have been extremely dangerous to runt o the police station, unless you want to run around the loop.

The fire goes out due to the safety valve on the gas cylinder, and the traffic starts to flow normally again until 3 or 4 police vehicles turn up and block the road, so nobody can drive along the road, brilliant.🚓🚓🚓🚓

No, it was all over within about 15 minutes. The roads were closed and then fire fighters came and had a look but there wasn't much for them to do.

Gas main. Looks like it's been dug into and then I'd guess the force of the explosion blew the fire out. The explosion could be caused by the electricity cable melting and then as it's popped it's blown the fire out.

This is a busy junction and everything happened so quickly. Vehicles had entered the area already so all had to either turn round or stay put and wait. Also, there are roadworks going on here so not all lanes were available.

In this case - intersection must be clear, and ONLY block one the lane - turning left, this make a fast and safe evacuation of area.

Ask drivers to U turn - NOT wait there. NEVER keeps people close to fire of unknown substance. Like wee see here. NEVER! This is proper: 1. EVACUATE (keep people away) 2. SECURE (lock area) 3. ACT (deal with fire) NEVER do in different way. Ask any firefighter. Otherwise someone may get hurt or die.
