This is an experiment using a gas discharge tube in place of traditional spark gap for more efficient operation. 15 x 60watt 120 volt lamps shown in this test.

Very well done Dave ! How much input power do you use about ? Many thanks. Regards, Stefan.

Is this a Xenon tube that you use for the sparkgap ? How do you start it ? Many thanks. Regards, Stefan.

@overunitydotcom Yes, Xenon for now. I believe Krypton may work a bit better. It has been self triggering at 4kv. At first it was harder to light, now it is changing a bit and starts very easily.

My understanding is that Gas Discharge Tubes are intended for shunting stray voltage spikes, as a safety device and that as such are not designed for continuous operation. I have rejected them as a spark gap in my own project because of it. But perhaps you can help me out here as they would be very convenient to use: How do these last, in your experience?

What will happen if I send 1000V to a 800V rated break down voltage ceramic capacitcapacitor?

It'd be really something if all of those bulbs were wireless.... =P
