At minute 23:30, when you turn the oven to simmer, why do you have to wait for the flame to go down (thermal electric device) and with the door closed? Is it not the control knob that controlls the flow of gas to that oven? I only do meters and have done so for over 6 years now. It's good to know how all these things work. There's too many people/engineers saying that the control knobs are too safety devices which they are not! Great video.

Hi Derek .just want to ask you instead of blowing the flame 🔥 out and let gas escapes , can you test like turn the tap off and listen for the click”shut “ ??? Is it correct doing also this way ? Or should blow out always the flame ? Thanks
@tomkatgastraining Жыл бұрын
If you turn the tap off you are not testing the safety device even though some training manuals say you can. When I blow out the flame I simulate real life scenarios and you test the safety device is shutting of the gas if activated unlike turning of the gas tap and listening for the thermoelectric closing isn’t telling you it’s working and turning the gas off.

Hiya, can you just clarify something please. 4:50ish, you say that the lid safety is ONLY to protect the glass, but then why is it ID with it being inoperable if the glass lid is broken/missing? I could understand if it were due to it also preventing the escape of gas but not solely based on protecting the lid
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
It’s only ID if someone has made it inoperable ie Someone has jammed some wood in to keep it working

Hello Derek, excellent video as a lay person I understood everything. I could you help with a problem with my Cannon Stratford 10530G. Everything works as it should apart from one thing When turning on the oven, either with the door open or not, the flame takes many minutes (sometimes as long as 5 mins) to go from low rate to high burner. Once it achieves high burner it behaves as normal and responds to the knob control and sets the gas mark correctly. It has a liquid vapour valve. Any ideas whats going on there?
@daverich33522 жыл бұрын
I like the video, very clear descriptions. The reason I was watching is that my oven recently developed a fault, when I try to used the oven the flame is never larger than the small flame seen during ignition, regardless of the Gas mark setting on the dial. Is there a way to verify if this problem caused by a faulty thermostat or the FSD?.

Tomkat, I have a question, I have a gas cooker where you push the knobs in and turn them to let gas through, on one of the knobs I have noticed that turning it without pushing it in allows gas to flow to the ring and light, whether pushed or not, is this a potentially dangerous fault? The other rings work as intended, minus one that won't light

If you have one that doesn’t light then maybe it’s time for a new one or get a gas engineer out to check it’s safe 👍🏻

I watched this again because it’s fantastic and this guy is a legend. Question time 😊 If the oven is liquid expansion and you blow out the flame it goes off but if you press the ignite button it would turn the gas on at the bypass rate? However, if the oven is thermo electric and you blow out the flame and then press the ignite button it would remain off?? That’s how I understood it. Is this correct? Thanks Derek. 👍🏻 Asian Jon. I like the way you you test the thermocouple,is it enough or is it still necessary to test the thermocouple on: a) Running at op temp b) Turn of gas either by service valve or ECV c) Start stop watch - listen for valve to close d) Tightness / let by test either at pressure test point on appliance or the meter 2- How can we identify if a FSD is thermocouple or Liquid Expansion Your answer will be much appreciated
