Great video. Another nice thing about your 2004 coach is the quality. RV manufacturers were turning out the best quality coaches from about 2000 to 2008. After the market crash of 2008 the manufacturers started using cheaper materials and cutting corners. And they really have never gone back to the pre market crash quality. I have a 2004 Travel Supreme motorhome with 106000 miles and all the interior cabinetry and wood work is solid cherry. No laminate or mdf board on this unit. And the gel coat is incredible. All the graphics are painted... no vinyl.

Sir, you need to get a camera scope and check your charge air cooler radiator and coolant radiator for clogged coils. The oil slobber vent tube sends oil vapors into the fan blades and shoved into the coils. Then any dust, and dirt gets shoved into the oil. And it keeps collecting and collecting. I experienced overheated in the mountains, cleaned both very clogged radiators.

Here is something i would like to see - a motorhome with a seires diesel electric hybrid drivetrain. An electric motor for traction, An EV battery that is charged with a diesel generator that is tuned for maximum efficiency. It may be possible to get 20+ MPG in a motorhome.

I had a 2017 Fleetwood Bounder 35K. Loved it when it was parked. Hated it when I drove it. Honey "WHAT DID YOU SAY??? I CAN'T HERE YOU"..as we go up the little hill. Honey.. "HANG ON, WE ARE GOING AROUND A CURVE"..suspension sucked. We had to take aspirins after every trip. Front wheels off the ground, every time we put the jacks down. Now... we ride in style.. in a whisper quiet DP :)

Diesel all the way for me, at 100,000 miles it’s just starting to break-in. The average gas RV lifespan is about 100,000 miles give or take but a well-maintained diesel can easily go 1,000,000 miles. Diesel also tend to have better chassis and a higher build quality, rides better, more torque and overall a far better rig than it’s comparative gas counterpart. An old cheap quality diesel pusher is equal to or better than a new high quality gas rv.

Hello! I am a first time watcher and a new subscriber. My wife and I part time too. We have a 2006 Monaco Dynasty. It is a 42' diesel pusher. We have the Air Force One braking system. It is so easy to use. There is no break module in the car that pushes the break pedal. We just hook up a quick disconnect air line and we are done. We have a side mounted radiator. It gets better air flow so we have never had a heating issue.
@GratefulGlamper4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! We wish we had a side radiator. Much better! Also, I’m really thinking hard about getting the Air Force one. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it and there is a lot less hassle than the Patriot 3 device.

The reason diesel pumps are so dirty is that diesel is an oil. Gas evaporates and diesel doesn't. So it Collects the dirt.
@amywhitaker39614 жыл бұрын
Jack Elston gas is made from oil as well, just much more refined, and kerosene falls in between. Gasoline is a flammable liquid and diesel is a combustible liquid due to the different flash points.

A third engine manufacturer is Detroit Diesel. It is big in OTR trucks, I have a 60 series in mine. Are they not used as much in motor homes?
@GratefulGlamper4 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard the 60 series are some of the best! American Coach started putting some DD13s in their coaches at some point, however you mainly see Cat and Cummins in these Fleetwood Diesels.

Gasser Pro : Financial savings. Ex: Lower cost for engine maintnance (mechanic hours/more options for repair means more competative prices), regular upkeep (oil changes etc), & the coaches themselves retail for less. Diesel Pushers Pro: All around weight advantages . Ex: Better weight distribution. Greater towing capacity. Can store more stuff. More square footage bc the engine can handle a longer rig. Playing devils advocate: Yes, Gassers are the inexpensive option all around but Diesel Rvs hold thier value better bc the engines are hardworking & built to last. Sure, Diesel's can haul massive amounts of weight but your paying for that hardworking engine continously for the length of your trip. Rvs are depreciating assets truth is you'll pay for the privilege either way. The money you save may add to the places you can afford to visit. Or the resale value can help when you decide it's time to permanently stop the road trip or just trade up/down etc. Ultimately where & how long you plan to travel makes a big diffrence on what coaches will work best. The best RV isn't about Gassers &/or Diesel Pushers , the determining factors are personal prefrence & the type of adventure have/plan.

For sure and great things to point out.

Great comparo, even if it's a few years old...thanks! Dumb "pre-noob" RV question: why are there no "gas pushers"? Is it strictly due to the type of frame each type is built on?

You shouldn't be overheating, even going up a pass. You may want to try cleaning the radiator, they can get clogged from dirt and dust and reduce effectiveness dramatically. There are a lot of youtube videos on it 👍
@GratefulGlamper4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott. That’s what we ended up doing and worked out great! On our model Discovery there was a breather tube that was too short that blew oil up into the radiator (slightly problematic I know :) We lengthened that and cleaned with degreaser and no overheat issues since!

Too much "Financial " lingo your's Vs. Mine attitude kinda sux. Just an observation . Working at a Tour Bus Co. Garage, I've never seen a rig with over heating probs because of the rad being in the rear or side rear. BTW if your diesel had a side rear rad you'd be able to get to a major part/s of the engine. Having air for brakes, tires, toys etc is a big plus, diesel rigs are much more robust esp with grades. Up or down you've got it made and there's also the "Jake Brake" going down grades big helps there.

This is a great educational introduction video to help people make choices. Just a quick FYI for accuracy (I heard it mentioned here and in the five2go video that you have glow plugs). Your diesel engine does not have glow plugs. It has a single heater at the air intake. I'm a new subscriber to your channel, and look forward to your other videos. thanks

There are certainly other differences and trade offs for each, however, I wouldn’t trade the quiet and improved ride, amazing torque, better chassis, engine longevity for anything! We had a gas and enjoyed it, however we love our diesel more :)

Wow you guys left a lot out of the positive reasons to buy a diesel pusher. Sounded kind of like you were bagging on yours as to not be bragging. I drove a big rig for 8 years and have owned a diesel pusher for 20 years. Same chassis and engine you have. Here are some points you could've included. 1. While a rear draft will run hotter than a side draft model, any diesel is easy to cool down when running hot. Just shift down a gear and it immediately cools down because the motor isn't working as hard. If it still isn't cool enough then go down another gear. Works every time. You can't do that with a gas engine. 2. You never have to be concerned with weight in a diesel pusher. The chassis and motor can handle whatever you put in it. You have to be mindful of what you pack in a gas motor home. 3. Put the same tow vehicle and weight in both motor homes and the diesel pusher will leave the gas motor home in the dust when climbing hills. You mentioned you have a little more torque. Try double the torque. And torque is what does the work. Not to mention the diesel will get better mileage. 4. That guy mentioned he bought bad diesel once. I've bought bad gas more times than I've bought bad diesel so not a pro for the gas model. 5. You can put 200 to 300 thousand miles on a gas engine. If you're lucky. You can put a million miles on a CAT or Cummins diesel engine. A gas model will go through several motors before the diesel will quit. That is why people who haul loads across the country are all diesel big rigs. There are no gas big rigs for a reason. 6. No comparison in the ride quality. Riding on air bags is so much better than springs and shocks on a gas motor home. 7. Air brakes are way more stronger at stopping than hydraulic brakes. They are bigger and are safer. 8. You talked about how hard it was to access your engine. That is a characteristic of your model only. Not all diesel pushers. Mine the bed raises up and there's the engine cover. Easy peezy. Gas models are no easier to service in general. You either have to reach in from the front grill or remove an engine cover inside the motor home. 9. The configuration of the entry door is a big bonus in a diesel pusher. The door is all the way up front and at the end. That gives you the whole length for living. The gas is right in the middle of the whole rig so everything else has to be designed around the door. 10. The range of a diesel pusher with the 100 gallon tank will more than double a gas rig. 11. You mentioned glow plugs and having to replace them and gas motors don't. Gas engines need spark plug and wires changed frequently. Glow plugs last a long time. I still haven't replaced mine after 20 years. Knock on wood. 12. Using the air system in the motor home to brake the tow vehicle is a huge advantage. That way the tow vehicle only brakes when you do. Not dependent on momentum. I use the Road Master. 13. There is a reason why all high end motor homes are diesel pushers. There are no million dollar gas rigs. Too many benefits to a diesel pusher. Usually someone will buy a gas rig because of the lower cost. That was our reason for our first 3 motor homes. But don't get me wrong. I still enjoyed your video. It just seemed like you talked about all the bad stuff.

Actually the lifespan of a diesel is maybe 500k and a gas maybe 200k.
