The biggest thing I recommend is just loving it from the start. I didn't choose the surgery to be skinny and look good, I chose it to be healthy. I'm not from the States, so to be honest, I find it concerning that so many people are getting weightloss surgeries over there. Let me just say, I don't think it's necessarily the easy way out, and I don't judge anybody. However, if it's becoming such a normal thing that everyone knows several people who had it done... it's worrisome to me. To me, it sounds like a societal change has to happen with food. Everyone getting pieces of their stomach cut off can't be the solution here. Speedy recovery, though, Alex

👏🙌🏽 most people are overweight it seems on America and it is very concerning. Especially for children since it seems to be getting worse and worse every year. It is pretty insane how this surgery is banalized. To me this is a symptom of our society that is so pleasure-oriented, (so much so that people find it easier to risk their life on a surgery table rather than eating less!), and impatient (long term goals are so hard to acheive because we need instant gratification). It's kind of scary... Imagine trying to explain this surgery to someone living a hundred years ago... By the way I obviously include myself in this depiction of society. It might not be food for me, but I have other demons that I fight every day. I'm sorry if this comment offends anyone, it was NOT my goal at all. I just wanted to share my reflexion on the subject. This is in no way shape or form trying to shame people going through the surgery. If it makes them happy then I'm sincerely happy for them!

Regarding the extra food you need when pregnant. That's not really a thing. The first trimester you need about 100 calories extra a day and the 2nd and 3rd about 300. But that's on a 'normal' size person. The whole eat for two thing is super outdated. I'm obese and when I got pregnant I only put on 20lbs extra. And had a 9lb baby.

Everyone is different. I am 6 months post op gastric bypass, and dumping syndrome is a concern. Eating anything with over 3g of sugar makes you 💩 like crazy. You're still supposed to avoid carbs as much as possible. I can't drink skim milk (too sugar-y), and bread HURTS my stomach. I can eat a tiny bit of rice. I'm also supposed to never smoke, drink alcohol, drink caffeine, or carbonation. You have to chase protein to get enough every day, and take your vitamins. Just figured I'd answer your question from my perspective :) every surgeon is different.
