Thanks, Robin. I just finished reading Spin so I'll start here. You described it well without revealing too much. I enjoyed it though I thought there was too much character building and not enough scifi. But scifi a-plenty there is. What struck me with this book is that the cosmic event at the end of the novel is as striking as the one that opens the novel turning the ending into an exciting opening for the next book. I have Axis and Vortex on hand. I'll report back eventually. I experienced Gateway the same way you did, but I actually DNFed it. Everything proposed was exciting, but not the way it was delivered. A copy of Children Of Time awaits by my night stand. You made volume 3 sound so good that I can't wait to get to it, in the order. Cheers! 7

Thanks for watching! Yes, the way Spin ended was certainly intriguing. I appreciate your thoughts and may consider continuing the series at some point - but in the meantime I have some other series I'm prioritising.

I’m intrigued by Tchaikovsky’s vision of alien/uplifted intelligence. I loved Children of Time maybe I should find Time… to read the sequels! 😂

The sequels didn't enthrall me in the same way as the first book, but they are still worth your time!

Hard agree on Gateway! Mainly boring which is a bad vibe for any book. I'd like to read Spin, like you I've heard good things. I loved the uplifted crows but felt CoM was the weakest, or least good, of the trilogy. Great reviews Robin. 👍

The Gateway book is considered by almost everyone I heard talking about it, including myself, bad. However, the Heechee series is considered a good series, with the second book being extremely good! Unfortunately you need to read the 1st book to understand what's going on with the rest of the books. About Spin, it's a good decision not to read the other 2 books in the series. I've read them and they are bad. Only 1st book is worth reading. It's well written and it pulls you in from the start. There are some things that I can't talk about because of spoilers that made me give it 4 stars as well.

Thanks for the feedback on the Spin sequels! That is helpful to know. As for Gateway, it's interesting, it seems to be quite divisive. Clearly some people love the first book, since it's won major awards and has a score of over 4 on Goodreads. I've heard very little about the sequels. I probably won't go out of my way to read them, but given your high praise of Beyond the Blue Event Horizon, if I find a copy while out shopping, I'll be sure to pick it up

I had a very similar reaction to Gateway as you. Fantastic premise but couldn't stand the protagonist.

I enjoyed Gateway quite a lot, but not as much as i thought i would - maybe a 3/5. I wasn't a huge fan of the alternating chapters and those that were him with the therapist. I loved the premise of it though. I have Beyond the Blue Event Horizon, but have yet to read it. I thought Gateway could easily be the basis of a great TV series.

I gave up after Ruin. I find AT very hit and miss. Some of his books are absolute winners while others are a hard DNF for me.

Ruin was my least favourite of this trilogy, it did drag a bit but I still enjoyed it overall. I loved the first book.
