I really appreciate that you include comparisons between both methods and final results. Not just in this vid, either. It helps me take in and understand the details and differences better when I can see multiple compare / contrasts against each other at once or in a row. . It's hard for me (especially as a total beginner) to keep all the varying end results in mind long enough to search up separate thing1-vs-thing2 pics or videos everytime I'm trying to learn something new or decide between things.

I suspect that 3x is usually recommended because, imo, @ 8:04 we see that the end result looks nicer than 2x & 2.5x but doesn't run into the problems you note with the 4x. . A shame that the 4x+ sounds like it can be so user-unfriendly for beginners because I like the look of the 4x but am too intimidated by it as a newbie.

Gathering at 4x waist is possible! You can use lightweight fabric if you think your machine won't be able to hand regular weight material that's gathered a lot. You can also zig zag stitch over the gathers to compress the material before adding the waistband. Usually, I sew it to one side of the waistband, then trim down the excess in the seam allowance. This helps keep the interior of the waistband from looking too bulky.

Would the string method work for tulle?
@ShilynSews Жыл бұрын
I've done it before, and it works but you have to be careful not to pull too hard and rip the tulle. Hand basting with longer stitches would be your best bet.

Are these all 1/2 circle skirts?
@ShilynSews Жыл бұрын
No, they're all made from a rectangle piece of fabric!
