You're shooting at spherical object. Changing height will still give you the same surface shape/angle if you are aiming center mass. Same chance of ricochet.

When you're shooting at a sphere, it doesn't matter the angle you shoot from. It has the same chance of ricochet.

Only if you hit it normal to the surface, which is actually pretty difficult to do since there is only one point a sphere in relation to you where you are normal to the surface. Hitting any other point will give you the same angle in, angle out of any other solid surface. It’s actually less dangerous to the shooter to shoot spheres, but way more dangerous for everything else within a mile.

His explanation why shooting from an elevated position would prevent ricochets doesn't really make any sense 😎 It's a sphere, which has an infinite amount of surface orientations, so it'll ricochet everywhere, including right back at you if you aim for the center, no matter where you're shooting from lol

Once the face of the stone became angled, alot of the energy from each round was no longer being released into the stone so the full impact of each shot wasn't felt. I think had you turned the stone so the destroyed face was more perpendicular to you, you might have actually split it

That logic about “I am way up here, ricochet won’t hit me” is nonsense when shooting against a sphere. If you hit a sphere, the ricochet can go in literally any direction. The only advantage is the loss of kinetic energy involved in getting the bullet another 5 feet in the air.

He was planning on hitting the part of the sphere closest to him horizontal-wise, not counting vertical. The horizontal one makes the bullets ricochet down. If he shot straight at the center of the sphere (the part that is flat to him), then it would be the same.
