Me too! I played Sapphire first, and when I got to play Emerald, I just thought they redesigned the contest buildings and never entered them lol

I don't mind the Battle Tents, especially as an intro to the Frontier, but I can't help but prefer contests as something dotted around the region because it was another way to engage with pokemon beyond battlign

I recently played Emerald for the first time and was actually kinda bummed they removed all contest halls. I used to like to travel to contest locations just like gyms, now it is all in one olace. It’s easier gameplay wise, but it kinda lost a thing for me. I always had a dream of an ultimate pokemon game that had different contest halls, battle factory things and sports minigames spread across the whole map like gyms and then have one big place kinda like the elite4. It would give more of and adventure feeling to me personally

I've been looking if someone made a rom hack of R/S/E where you could be a coordinator and fully focus on Contests, but weirdly enough, I found nothing. Some people seem to have tried but didn't finish making the roms, or they became unavailable. It's pretty sad. Even if I never experienced it myself (haven't played RS, only Emerald), I agree that having contest halls in different cities seem cooler, it would be just like in the anime.

i loved the battle tents waaaay more than the contests as a kid nowadays, id love for them to be brought back as a way to re-explore random battle types. like a rotation tent, a reverse tent, a sky tent, etc.

I loved your little battle commentary on the first facility giving a play by play, it kind of reminded me a bit of Mah-Dry-Bread's Pokémon Challenges but I think it would be nice to see you do something like it too on some of your play through's. It's just a thought though, don't feel pressured to. Keep up the great work

I use to really like the battle factory. It was fun renting Pokémon and having battles with ones you couldn’t get. Plus it was good game of chance and like that kept you on your feet. It never wore out it’s fun.

I always did the one in slateport city just for fun. It sets the expectation for what the effing battle factory will be like, except in the battle tent I barely walk out with the win if my luck is truly terrible. Last I remembered I had to beat a rock type with a flying type. I was so hyped and cheered like "how the heck did I win that?!" To me it's short but sweet fun.

I'm not a fan of how they replaced the contest hall with these. Traveling around the region to complete in contests felt like a really fun side quest to do with your Pokemon on par with collecting gym badges that didn't require battling. The Tents just felt like a diet battle frontier in the same game that has a fully realized battle frontier already in it. Once you hit the postgame, the tents instantly become pointless. Meanwhile, locking contests to the late game and using the most out-of-the-way Hall that's easy to miss when you're casually traveling through Lilycove just feels bad. Replacing some of the generic houses with Tents would have been way better...
