Daali is supper, yes it's aamchi's kuldevu. At my place my husband doesn't like to have any other coconut gravvy as the main curry along with rice, daily daal is a must. Where as my daughter's favorite is rasam, so I hv to balance both. Thanks Vinaya, for providing different types of dalitoy. For tadka (oggarane) I usually put haldi and pepper pd along with red chilly and hing.

Some specific points about dalitov. Only freshly boiled dalitove with freshly cooked dal tastes good. Preparing dalitove with pre-cooked dal from the fridge won't taste good. Even dalitove prepared at noon does not taste good, when re-heated at night. A dalitove that is prepared at noon and is very normal to taste for the salt level, becomes significantly more salty at night without further addition of salt.

Soaking daal for 6 to 8 hrs is very necessary as it contains tannins and phytic acid which may lead to bloating and discomfort. It eliminates gas producing chemicals too. At the same time it reduces cooking time also.
