TENGEN really did a great job with re-working Gauntlet for the NES. Giving the player their health back after each treasure room was a good idea...instead of a constant struggle to survive (especially for a solo player), there's more chances to explore around for hidden stuff. There are a ton of hidden destructible walls, pushable walls, exits can now lead to different rooms, just about anything can be hidden inside a locked chest, good or bad. Also, a soundtrack with interesting little tunes was added. It became a lot more like "Legacy of the Wizard" and yet it still kept the basic gauntlet gameplay.

only on a nes emulator. As a kid I got to level 56 I think. I had to do a lot of save state abuse to beat this game. I can not fathom someone beating this game on the actual nes.

I finished this game and have never heard of anybody else completing it. It ended on level 100, but you had to pick up codes throughout the game. At the end you had to kill a two headed dragon. I recorded it on my VCR at the time. My favorite game as a kid.

Do not forget you have to kill the dragon and go and get some flower looking device and then you go to the exit. Killing the dragon alone is not the end of the game.

Despite the grapgics are very simplistic, but technically they’re very amezing because most enemy’s aren’t sprites but they’re just animated background tiles wich get’s changed and updated on the fly ,they did this to avoid flickering & slowdown ,pretty clever😀

Sure beats pac-man.different maze and level each time.in pac-man you pass the level.you are on the same screen over and over and it gets boring.i was kind of glad when pac-man was on the super nes.it switched up the gameplay a bit...he is on a quest.at least i feel i accomplished something when i pass a level.not the same board!!!

Ill never forget my disgust and anger when i bought this turd of a game, As a child of the 80's i was in awe the first time i played gauntlet in the arcade, the year was 1985, When i heard it was being released to the nes i think i creamed my pants, I awaited the date, believe it was late summer of 87, I rode my bike all the way to the toys r us at the mall, good 4 miles.... Walked in bought it, was 50 bucks, big money for a 10 year old........Got home, put it in the nes, and was sickened..........They missed the ball on this one, gauntlet 2 put out by mindscape 2 years later was much more of an accurate depiction of the game
