Fantastic! Nobuo has really changed it up for this game, I believe Sakaguchi asked him to. Love the songs I've heard so far, many of them very different for being Uematsu but you can still tell it's him. Love the thunderous drums on this one, and the overall orchestral feel of the soundtrack.

I don’t care how obscure this is in terms of Nintendo IPs, I would love to see Zael in a future smash game. I always thought the more niche franchises being added into smash such as Xenoblade Chronicles in 4, ARMS in Ultimate, and Kid Icarus in Brawl having playable characters in smash is such a treat!

I agree with all of your points bar that 13 was worth finishing. I got up to the last boss, asked myself "Why am I playing this garbage?" and just generally stopped. As far as soundtracks go, I have yet to meet anyone that can deny 8 as the best. 9's charm was it's fair and to the point handling in both, the field map and battle. I may be biased when I say this, but I believe 9 to be the best game in the series.

Its always a matter of taste. Both "phenomenons" have pros and cons. Random Battles do (from my point of view) train the ability to be patient and to scout areas effectively. Also they may add a factor of difficulty and excitement (especialy when combined with fixed save points) due to the "unknown" lurking behind every corner. Scripted battles can be balanced to a game situation more easily and are more like classical riddles, but can seem boring for "oldschoolers", due to build-in convenience.

The key doesn't change with each repetition throughout, the beginning of each repetition is tweaked down a key for a few measures then returns to its original afterwards. I'll be using this as my standard MOB battle theme for the next WOW expansion (if Soundtrack gets updated to work with it).

Cool battle theme. I'd have to say overall that The Last Story has one of the better video game soundtracks I've heard. It doesn't quite make my top five list, but it's good nonetheless. My favorite from Last Story's soundtrack would have to be Bout of Arena Battle (if that's what it's really called, I've seen multiple translations of some of the tracks' names).

Yeah, but I kinda thought the music from XIII was the only GOOD thing about that game. Uematsu can't be beat, but Masashi Hamauzu is pretty brilliant in his own right. Check out his piano renditions of Saga Frontier II tracks on piano if you don't believe me. In the meantime, gotta love the soundtrack for The Last Story!

You already got the answer, but maybe it's good to tell you what Sakaguchi wanted with the music anyway. Alot of what you hear in the Last Story soundtrack is quite different from what we heared from Uematsu in the past. The first batch of songs he made for the Last Story where actually rejected because it didn't match the feel of the game. Ambience was the key for the music in this game, and that was what Sakaguchi wanted for the music. Classic Nobuo Uematsu just didn't fit for this title.
