These guys talk about playing Ranji trophy when the contracted players don't play domestic cricket unless they are required to. Load management is a talk these days because the same players play all formats for the most part. Team selection for the format in question should be based on the corresponding format in domestic cricket. Today's selection is based on performance in IPL alone and then they are fast forwarded to other formats. Also a player is selected as an opener or a middle order player but once selected for the Indian team should be ready to play any and all roles that the situation of a day demands aka team balance (current reference to whims and fancies of the coach and captain). This explains why in the last few years there have been so many players who have earned country caps but are no longer in contention.
