Nice Tc play--I didn't spot it and lost the board. Board 2 looks like a club lead gets us another trick since partner has Jx of spades and three clubs.

Nice set. I've never noticed you say 'shake' so much before, did that rub off from Rob B?
@wolpertbridge3 ай бұрын
I go through phases of ditch drop throw shake (all the one syllable words), never discard. Maybe if Rob says it a lot it’s rubbed off on me lately but it’s the most common word used among my peers.

Toss pitch slough/sluff! Yeah I think my most common are throw and pitch.

Yes indeed Lia’s declarer play on 5 was sickening! She did not find a way to lose 3 tricks against me.

Board 1 - I drew trumps and exited in spades; they cooperated by letting me ruff a spade and exit in clubs without touching diamonds. East erred by exiting DJ, felling West’s 9, so it was simple and risk free to pickup diamonds
@royredlich3 ай бұрын
On Board One I pulled trump and stripped the spades when the opponents won the second round of clubs they had to lead diamonds and I didn't have to make a guess in the suit.

board 2, i counted 17HCP and opened 1NT - as i've seen you do with 5 card majors. we found 4H.

On board 1, I delayed the decision by exiting a spade, West played a third spade which allows you to cash the ace of diamonds and exit a club allowing a make if either hand had a singleton J/T/9, while not looking silly if the suit was 3-2 the whole time.
@wolpertbridge3 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s definitely better, to give the opponents a chance to make your play 100%.
@grahamlucy66273 ай бұрын
You need to cash DK in hand (rather than the DA from table), before exiting with S. Now if the opps clear the clubs before exiting in S, you can still take two D hooks. If you cash DA first, then E will split JT when you lead towards Q, and set you.
@wolpertbridge3 ай бұрын
@@grahamlucy6627 the key is to play spades before you touch diamonds. See if the opponents make the mistake of not taking their clubs. If they make that mistake you actually can cash the ace of diamonds and then pick up any 4-1 split with a singleton honor on either side with an endplay.

On board 1 - I eliminated the black suits - so i didn't need to be brave as i got a ruff and discard.

Yes lots of commenters have found that line well done. Clearly I was a little lazy. I’m so used to Lia doing the right thing on defense that i tend to skip the formality. What I didn’t think about was that since the double dummy showed it cold, Lia didn’t see any urgency to cash the clubs.

Board 5 is just annoying and these things happen all the time on Intobridge - are they learning from playing you first (not sarcasm by the way?) as it seems like everyone else only took two tricks on that board. It's annoying either way - if I win a board or lose a board due to randomness it seems. For me this is the biggest fault on Intobridge - hope they can get rid of this bug.
@wolpertbridge3 ай бұрын
The irony is that it’s actually like regular bridge where your best boards come from opponents ridiculous mistakes.
@wolpertbridge3 ай бұрын
In the long run you get fixed a lot less than you get gifts. Board a match makes them more painful. At matchpoints you have field protection.

@@johnworf I also got three tricks on board 5 on a different line of play. Might be because I'm also playing the same Master Series Full with Lia, that might have caused her to make some wrong inference that others didn't get (?). Not sure. In the last week I got addicted and grinded up from 7 to A. I do get a few system wins and losses every now and then due to playing the Gavin system--sometimes my partner will make a different opening bid from others, or the defenders will choose a different action, or whatever. I don't really mind though, just shrug and click next hand. That part just feels like real bridge to me. Plus I kind of like that the different systems can "compete", so to speak. The only system losses that genuinely annoy me are when partner misbids. I played a hand yesterday where partner held KQxx QJTxx x Axx and responded 3S to 1H (a mini splinter) with this nice 12 count that's supposed to bid 4D in Gavin's methods. The result was that I bid the wrong slam contract because partner "couldn't" have this good a hand.

@@Ryan-ds5zc good grind... I start playing rubbish if I play too much... so I cannot do that now. Yes different systems getting differing results... but sometimes it's just odd how they play the hand wrongly like on this occasion.

B1: Lia gives count, well... When I played DK and saw D9 falling, I played S out, West returned S, and I played C, East returned DJ for me... I wonder after seeing DJ/9/T, if it favors that West has a singleton. Or should I just play for 3-2 break if no other information is available? B2: I double 4C which should show 20-23 HCP in the system, and Lia bid 4D = 4H + 4+D. I had to choose between passing 4D or biding 4S, and I passed. Boom, Lia showed 5H and lied to me QAQ
@wolpertbridge3 ай бұрын
B1 Normally with an 8 card fit you would just play for 3-2. You wouldn’t assume it’s a singleton. It was only their partner’s count that pushed me to finesse. B2: ouch
