It’s America’s third largest state geographically and what’s going down in small pockets-Tenderloin district of San Francisco and Venice & S. Central LA hardly represents San Diego and Orange Counties, the forested northern counties, the vast high and low desert resort cities like Palm Springs, nor miles of the central wine, gold, and agricultural regions and anywhere else on the coast. I was in San Francisco for a week at the start of this month and had a ton of conservative fun-great restaurants, Chinatown 4th of July fireworks, saw Evita, dined to Bossa Nova in the Tonga Room, heard languages from all over Europe on the packed cable cars-just had a blast in 70 degree temperatures. I think having a few friendly cops walking the beat downtown has made a big difference. Like all big American cities it has its unique problems, but it’s not the dump Murray speaks of (so disappointed he’d pull that!). I’m also convinced green eyed monsters in red hats actually want it to fail and are gleeful at any negative report they can ferret. And I consider myself a right leaning centrist.
