I used to be on a fire crew in a water tender with an ex-inmate who started fighting fire in prison, and joined my department after he got out. We were the best team! The water tender is Heavy!!!! Fire is crazy. The wind is terrifying.

Most people would much prefer to do something active, and help the community, and be able to get out of their cells. Makes the sentence time go by faster. My crew worked side by side with the convict crews, we would train every day and they would get to train too. On fires they would be cutting line while we are pulling hose and also cutting line. It is a beautiful team work situation and I’m grateful they have that program for inmates. Plus they have a ton of experience after they get out.

I know the US has a lot of free speech, but I was always under the impression that there were limits to free speech, for example you don't have the right to shout "fire" in the middle of a movie theatre in order to start a stampede. So surely Elon claiming that it's legal to loot, should also be illegal.

The first amendment to the US Constitution - the Freedom of Speech - states that people are allowed the ability to express their opinions and values without government interference. This includes 1) the ability to not speak (technically the right to not salute the flag), 2) to use offensive speech in political messages, and 3) to engage in symbolic speech (ex. burning a flag in protest). You are also correct in that it does NOT include the right to incite lawless action (Brandenburg vs Ohio), or basically say whatever you want (ex. a student making an obscene speech at a school-sponsored event - Bethel School vs Fraser) - that's usually up to terms and rules established by private property (i.e. if a privately owned building says no heckling, then you can't just waltz in and start heckling other people under the claim of free speech). In other words, it does not give people limitless ability to say/do whatever they want under the guise of free speech.

Watching this unfold is just heartbreaking. I've seen many fire seasons and crises here in Australia, too. Yes, firebombing aircraft are often deployed as part of the firefighting effort. Yes, they can draw water from swimming pools, lakes, rivers and the sea if needed. But they need to be airbourne first. And that just wasn't possible with those immensely powerful winds coming down through the mountains.

I run a garage in Ireland and had a customer in yesterday with his tesla. I asked how he felt about the car now since Elon started displaying his politics. He was sick, he a real teck geek and this tesla was his pride and joy, but he hates it now. To him the tesla was green and advanced technically and the start of a shift towards a more environmentally enlightened would. Now in his eyes it stands for greed and hate and he wants rid of it, says he'll go electric again but never a tesla. I'm guessing teslas stock will be taking a dump in the not too distant future. Elon will learn that getting into bed with Trump is ultimately expensive and bad for your reputation.

Fire fighting in urban areas requires water AND the infrastructure (pipes, pumps, hydrants) to deliver it to the fire. But it's the AMOUNT OF FIRE that planners failed to anticipate correctly for many reasons. Expanding fire fighting capacity is costly and most taxpayers resist paying more. Many homeowners resist the inconvenience of constructing more capacity .... trenching, traffic congestion. And building codes that limit density and the size of structures in desirable areas meet stiff resistance from the public. As Pogo said, we have met the enemy and it is us.

I"m from the UK and people here simply don't like Elon Musk. Having been emboldened by his time in America standing by the side of Trump( why was he even allowed to do that. Because he has a lot of money????). America has to take some of the blame for that. When he came to the UK and EU to interfere the way he does, his total ignorance of world affairs became apparent.
