"Why is "dog's bollocks" used to denote something good?" The real answer is, nobody knows. But as an aside, note that "dog's bollocks" can also be phrased as, "dog's cods", "canine's cahones", "woofer's plums", "mutt's nuts", "hound's testicules", etc. Welcome to England. I have this theory that we've been using our language so long that we have to do this with it to avoid boredom and malaise setting in.

@philbateman198910 жыл бұрын
***** lol I think it's something to do with onomatopoeia and it's use in British English. For example, he uses the word "flumped". It's not a legitimate word, but the sound of it, to me anyway, indicated what he means, "flump" is descriptive of the sound a person makes when they flop to the ground. Even more complex ones, like "gumpy little geck", are complete gibberish, but to a British person, it's a kind of gibberish that still implies something. The phrase just sounds like an insult. "Gumpy" doesn't mean anything, but the sound of it implies stupidity or ineptitude. "Geck" has a sharpness to it that implies malice, like calling someone a dick, even though "geck" is not a word. I could, for example, call another British person a "flimble wibbler", and even though it's complete gibberish, any other British person would likely agree that I'm implying that they are feeble, cowardly, or calling them a paedophile or "wanker". It just sounds like that is what it should mean. English is a very versatile language :P
