I am sitting on the back deck of my house in the Appalachian Mountains, having a cup of coffee, and watching KZbin. Yesterday, i paid my property taxes for a small cottage on a 1/2 acre. My property taxes were 400 dollars. Compared to when i lived in a slightly larger house in California, where I paid 3200 a year. Did I mention that I now have my own water source and get free garbage services? So, that saves me the $200 dollars a month , I paid in California. My car registration is now a total of $100 per year and no smog is needed. In California, I paid 300 dollars per vehicle a year plus smog cert fees. Life is wonderful since getting out of Commiefornia. Thanks Gavin for giving me that final push to get out.

He's right. We do miss the sunshine. I moved to Idaho, and Edward Cullen could live here without sparkling most of the time. But I'd still rather be here than California. Sunshine doesn't make up for the loss of freedom and the high taxes (and crime, traffic, housing cost, etc). Besides, if I really decide that I need sunshine, I can always go to Arizona, Nevada, or Southern Utah. All of these places are significantly better than CA.
