The problem with Swedish is that there is a whole other language when it comes to the royal family. So in the same way that in french you use "vous" for those above you, we use "Ni and er" but only for the royal family and you can never -under any circumstances- address a royal with their name unless you're really close to them. What the subtitles don't tell you is that at the end of last season, Simon started using "du" instead of "ni" but this season he's back to using "ni". Just thought it would clear up why he's othered so much cause he has a completely different set of pronouns to everyone :)
@lynnhettrick7588 Жыл бұрын
Interesting! I didn't realize that. Thank you! So there's a formal and informal "you" kinda like in German. But it's just used for the royalty or in any formal setting?
@jossposs3400 Жыл бұрын
The formal "you" is _only_ for royals, _maybe_ someone would use it if they are really old fashioned but I've never heard it. But I don't really understand, I've never heard Simon call Wilhelm "ni" from what I can remember 🤔
@musicmirj Жыл бұрын
@@lynnhettrick7588 i'm assuming it's like "Ihr und Euch" instead of "Sie und Ihnen". in german, we use the second instead of third person plural for royalty - or at least used to, idk if that's still the case as we don't have any royalty now lol

@@lynnhettrick7588 As someone born in the 1980's with grandparents born in the 1920's (no longer with us) I heard "Ni" a lot from them in different formal situations, like they had tremendous respect for doctors and called them "ni" and if they caleld someone for a meeting they would use it as a sign of respect, it was also used for someone with high social status. That is no longer important in Sweden, except for addressing member of the court.

Simon is clearly trying to recreate his first kiss with Wille with Marcus when he tries to get him to watch a horror movie. And quickly realizes it's not the same. The queen made sure NOBODY heard what she promised Wilhelm. Because she didn't mean a word of it.
@gerganakantcheva81762 жыл бұрын
The Queen basically said that she wants Wilhelm to come out on his own terms but then proceeded to tell him her terms for how he should do things if he wants to stay at this school... That again makes it obvious to him that she has the upper hand for 2 more years until he's 18, but then he actually has legal power in the Royal Family and could really renounce the throne if he and his mother can't work it out. I think he's slowly realizing that he could have control over things at 18, but right now he hasn't. (I think the Queen is implying that she thinks Simon was pressuring Wilhelm to come out and that she's protecting him from that...) August and Marcus are both 18. (Marcus has his own place, a car and a driver's license, things that underline his independence)

Note the rhythm in Lisa Ambjörn (creator and head writer of the series) writing. Simon's friends suggest his getting together with Marcus for some "action". Marcus suggests he prefers action movies and Simon immediately says he prefers horror movies. The horror movie was where Simon and Wilhelm started their romance. Over and over Lisa will strike a chord somewhere and you will hear it be resolved somewhere else. It's one of the things that makes this story so compelling. It resonates like a great symphony.

I think that Wille and Simon's conversation in the changing room just is really to show how far apart Willes' world actually is from anyone else's. Having gone his whole life with everything planned out for him 10 years in advance and day after day scheduled, 2 years until some sense of freedom doesn't seem bad at all to him, when for everyone else it's soooo fucking long. (Also, the Queen said they'd "discuss" his sexuality and choice of partner and that doesn't bode well. So, from the Queen's pov she's hoping he'd change his mind until then... it's a gross thing to say to anyone.)

Something that kind of made me mad that no one ever comments on is the fact that the Queen basically says he's too young to decide his sexuality, but he is being forced to act like an adult about the Crown Prince business. Which is it, is he too young, or or is he mature enough to take one the responisbility to make decisions for an entire country?
@andre_p2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think she’s saying he’s too young to decide on his sexuality. First off, one doesn’t « decide » on one’s sexuality. Secondly, what she’s trying to imprint on him is that from the Court’s viewpoint it’s all about appearances. That’s why she’s telling him things might be easier in 2 years’ time. Like Josh, I have my doubts about the sincerity of that statement though…😒

I simply think she should first and foremost be a mum to Wilhelm and as such she can still communicate the necessary things. Not treating it like a fucking business meeting. 13:00 Looking back over the two season of the series, it seems like there is more classism than any homophobia expressed by anyone in the show. It seems to be more that Simon doesn't have status, and then also about a s3x tape being released which would bring scandal to the royal family whether the prince was with a girl or a boy. I don't think the Queen is homophobic at all. She just doesn't want any mud on the royal family. Simon is *just* some local boy.

Bear with me because English is not my first language. Do you saw Kristina final eye roll at the phone coversation with Wilhelm? Her wording is so off... She is stalling for time to convince Wilhelm to be in a "conventional" relationship to show at the world (and marry and have heirs to maintain the power in her family branch) and have a male lover if he prefers men over women. I don't think she really cares his son is not straight but she cares about public perception. She knew August was the one that leaked the sex tape and she was the one that convinced Wilhelm to gave the interview denying the sex tape. It's true Wilhelm and Kristina didn't talk at Christmas but the talk you wanted it's not the kind of conversation they would have. This show is incredible because they talk about many topics in a subtle way: anxiety, power, drugs, tradition vs. modernity, social classes...
