What a wonderful way to celebrate liberty, equality, fraternity. How wonderful to see one straight man dancing with a gay man and became vice world champion. No one should deny that.

Where are the Girls?

They have a separate category like in most of sports but all genders are included in Gay Games :)

I love watching competitive ballroom dance, but as a queer person I get kind of tired of watching straight (appearing, anyway) couples all the time. I feel like an outsider looking in on a competition that I could never be a part of -- I’m a woman who likes to lead. I want to wear a gorgeous, femme dress and dance with another female-identified person swirling around in an equally fabulous dress. I had never, until today, thought of searching for same-sex ballroom dance and found this video. Watching members of the LGBTQI+ community dance together made my heart soar. What joy to see the grace of the dancers and the joy they exuded, see the awesome drag, humor, creativity, and fun of all who performed. I’ll be seeking out more videos and maybe one day a chance to see Gay Games dancers live. Heck, maybe I’ll go in search of some dance lessons myself! Love to you all, my fabulous LGBTQI+ peeps.

Wow, you're all just an inspiration to dancers like me! And I think I need to go to the next games because there isn't anything like that over here other than Rainbow Games events! Congratulations on all your achievements!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

a huge congratulations to u both. why is it though as a highly ranked gay ballroom dancer do I stil find same sex ballrooom dancing to be quite strange??? I am al for equality but just see ballroom as a man/woman sport.... can anyone explain to me why I feel tis way???
@huaichien5 жыл бұрын
Because male and female, fire and water, light and dark, yin and yang, are complementary by nature, and natural. That's why same sex dancing looks strange and unnatural.

It’s probably because it has been tradition for so long that any deviation would seem strange. It tries to emphasize existing gender roles by making females more feminine (although I wouldn’t say leaders are masculine per say). Regardless, could you imagine a female follow dressing in a suit to dance? I can’t. However, it would still me male and female.

Internalized homophobia--everything in the world is run by straight people who assume that their state of being is the default just because it is the most common. In a world dominated by right handedness, left-handed people are often alienated, and the same goes for gay people.

Cudownie!!! Ale zazdroszczę. Trenujecie w szkole tańca ukierunkowanej na pary tej samej płci? Wiecie może czy jest tez taka szkoła w dublinie?

They really need to modify this type of dancing to look way more interesting with two guys dancing together. There's far too much leaning back posturing and attached at the pelvis. Change it up way more. Choreograph!!!!
@MichaelLitke4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately in the current ballroom style this is a desired position. I do understand what you mean, it would be more interesting to open up the hold and do other things but this would be Smooth then, not ballroom. Maybe one day I will try :-)

Intéressant à regarder, ils se font plaisir, mais c'est bien moche au final.
