Douglas Correia de Souza (born 20 August 1995) is a Brazilian volleyball player, member of the Brazil men's national volleyball team, 2016 Olympic Champion,[1] silver medallist of the 2014 World Championship, gold medallist of the 2019 World Cup, two-time South American Champion (2017, 2019). On club level, he plays for Vôlei Taubaté.

people are definitely missing the point of this video. obviously we should recognize him for his skill and not his sexuality, but it's nice to see someone from a minority group perform so well in a sport like this. it's like someone being known as "the first black pilot" or "the first female prime minister" for example. it's not their race/gender that matters, but it shows that you can achieve your dreams regardless of your identity

GALERA FALANDO DO DESEMPENHO DELE NAS OLIMPÍADAS . Douglas era banco em Tóquio , porque os titulares era Leal e Lucarelli. Porém todas as vezes que ele foi acionado pra entrar na quadra ele compareceu porém não depende de um jogador pra ganhar um JOGO . Libero que não passa e defende , Central que não tava bloqueando e muito menos amortecendo , ponteiro e oposto que não colocou a bola no chão . E ainda falam que a culpa é do Douglas ?

Sim o time todo não foi bem. Mas em outras olimpíadas nosso grande trunfo era que quando o time não estava bem vinha alguém do banco e incendiava a partida. Mudava o rumo da partida. Douglas é um jogador mediano e quando foi acionado entregou 100% dele, mas por ser mediano não conseguiu mudar muita coisa...

He was struggling since he came to Italy, because he and his boyfriend suffered homophobia almost instantly in the italian airport, then they had problems with the apartment they were living, and he wasn't adaptating very well to the city (I think it's in Italy's countryside, but I'm not so sure about that), because they would receive homophobic glares constantly. Added to that, he fought with Mauricio Souza (yes, the middle blocker) because he said some homophobic shit on the internet and he was fired from his team (Minas), so Douglas got a lot of backlash from Souza's "fans" (they are not his fans, they just support our stupid president and whoever agrees with his facist ideas). So yeah, it was a lot for him to handle in his first international experience. Sorry about the HUGE text, Douglas' situation in Italy was really messy, but he said he will be playing again when the next season of Brazil's volleyball league starts
