Gayatri Mantra comes from Vedas. RigVeda to be exact. Vedas are the foundation of Hindu Religion. It talks about original gods and demons (more similar Greeks gods). Gita, Ramayan, Mahabharata, etc were written afterwards.

Love this mantra, my absolute favorite. But the ad 30 minutes in is so jarring in contrast, I have no words. Shocks me out of meditation immediately. I get the need for ads but why not place it in the very beginning? Even 2 of them. That way there would be no interruptions during the chant.

My personal understanding is knowing the meaning to begin chanting and meditatiing is not required. the meanings will revel itself. Meditating on the mantra is even more important since all the vedic meanings have become corrupted today. Like for example pashuvan means holder of lot of cows but intodays sense means having a lot of disposable income.
