Old video, but I did risers on my Low Rider S and changed out the upper brake line and had to bleed the brakes. Used a hand pump (mightyvac) and had absolutely no luck. No pressure in my front brakes at all. Went to my local HarborFreight and bought this same pneumatic brake bleeding kit for $30, bled both sides twice, and finally have the full brake pressure back. Since I'm positive that I introduced a lot of air in the ABS system in the initial bleed process with the mightyvac, I'm still taking it to Harley to have them purge the ABS system (better safe than sorry). But this video helped me out a TON to get my front brake pressure back. Thanks for the video.

Happy to help man!!! Yeah I hate those hand pumps. I’m not sure how anyone has any luck with them at all. This is where it’s at for sure!!
@thangknowa3288 Жыл бұрын
Yep, that's what I use too. 2 person gets old, mity vac disappoints. Go ahead and buy the brake fluid moisture detector for testing from time to time, and if your bike is ABS like mine, buy the mercenary utility and use it to flush your Harley ABS brakes EVERY YEAR. The ABS module replace can cost you a thousand, be proactive.
@RidinDad Жыл бұрын
Yeah I’m not worried about the moisture only because it’s so easy to do it I’ll just do it every year or two to be proactive. But yes the abs tool is a huge benefit to have man

Nice job and very thorough explaining. Im very happy with my MityVac though. Just a few pumps and it will keep vacuum as long as you want without the need of a compressor. I agree with you though, there's a lot of crappy hand pump systems out there.

I'm gonna give this a try. My usual method is attaching a hose and syringe filled with fluid, cracking the valve and pushing the fluid UP to the master cylinder. This has worked great in the past and Usually when you see fluid enter the master cylinder, all the air is completely out of the line. This method, for whatever reason, doesn't seem to go as smoothly on these abs softails though.
@RidinDad3 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure man. I tried that method a while ago and no good LOL. I like this one a lot. Easy and fast. No mess
@jstockwell733 жыл бұрын
I thought about one of those devices, but thought it was overkill for a bike. I use a $16 bottle with a tube (and son) to do my car. I bought a reverse bleeder -- essentially a giant syringe, which I think may be a good option for a flush on a bike.

Honestly I e dealt with those and I would not hesitate to spend the money on a system like this any day. It’s awesome and quick!
@therealjimmy11983 жыл бұрын
Awesome video! My buddy swears I should take it to a shop cause of the ABS system. Everything I see including your video basically says do it like you would any car. So as long as you have no air in the system you have no issue with the ABS system correct?
@RidinDad3 жыл бұрын
On paper that is the deal LOL it’s ultimately up to you and what you feel safe with. I’ve ridden it a bunch since then and purposefully engaged abs several times with no issues. Brakes feel better than they used to for sure too

Thank you for your awesome detailed video!! I've been manual bleeding for years.... This looks so much easier. I installed Speed bleeders a couple years ago which has helped quite a bit. What are your thoughts about using this air bleeder with the speed bleeders? I wouldn't want to harm the spring inside of each one due to the air pressure. Thanks again! Great job!! 👍

Glad to help man! And honestly I don’t know. I think they would be fine but I can’t promise you that. And yeah this way is soooo much better than manually bleeding brakes

Thanks for the help! I have one more question for ya if you don't mind? Is there any chance of moisture getting in the brake lines for example; If there is some moisture in the air hose? Thanks again, appreciate it. 👍😊

It’s sucking the brake fluid instead of pushing it so there’s no way anything in the air line would get in the brake lines

I am about to replace upper brake cable as well. Do you have video of how you did that? Specifically looking for step by step of disconnecting battery, emptying out fluid and replacing upper brake line.
@RidinDad2 жыл бұрын
I do not have a video on that I believe. I might but I can’t remember. It’s easy though. Don’t need to mess with battery. Just make sure you don’t turn the bike on at all. Drain the fluid. Then remove brake line. Put in new brake line. Add fluid and bleed. All there is to it

Yes and you should have no problems because the bottom line is if you look at the valve in the front on your forks it goes back to the ABS the fluid Hass to transfer through the transfer to the ABS system no matter what the only thing their module does is reset the ABS valves which is a valve it has nothing to do with flushing your brakes the reason I know that is because I do I’ve done it it’s not as technical as it sounds
@RidinDad3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s good news!

@jerrydelatorre5977 Жыл бұрын
No you don’t… I’ve done this many times… just ride your bike and apply your breaks hard to activate your ABS so the fluid moves… then do what he did in the video and you’ll be fine. This was advised by a Harley tech.

If using a handheld vacuum pump and applying too much psi to that pump is bad how is this good since you said you’re running your air compressor at 90 psi? I don’t understand how that is good by pulling that much psi through the system.
@RidinDad6 ай бұрын
Where have you heard about too much of a vacuum with a handheld pump?

Either there is air in the line or some issue with fluid somewhere. I would do it again and make sure the reservoir stays full for sure. Just keep trying. Something went wrong the first time obviously

Good luck! Make sure the bike is not on at any point during this process as well. If the bike is on you have the potential of screwing up the lines with the ABS function and getting a lot of air in there
@LonerBoi88883 Жыл бұрын
does it matter what side you do first?
@RidinDad Жыл бұрын
Probably not. As a general rule of thumb you’re supposed to do the farthest away from the master cylinder first and then work your way closer. But the way these front lines split it’s probably a crap shoot whichever one you choose to do first really
