Gayo Arabica Coffee Ateng Super Varieties
The Gayo highlands are known as producers of high quality Gayo Arabica coffee. Various varieties of Arabica coffee, including the superior varieties Gayo 1 and Gayo 2. Each variety has specific characteristics, both in terms of quality, physique and taste. This super Ateng variety is thought to be a descendant of the Catimor type. Kopi Ateng Super has a semi-dwarf stature that makes it easy to distinguish from the taller Gayo 1 and Gayo 2 varieties. The weakness of Ateng Super coffee is that its production begins to decline after 10 years of age. Catimor-based varieties are generally greedy for nutrients.
However, Ateng Super coffee is widely grown by Gayo farmers because of its advantages, namely a faster harvest time, dense fruit, and short branches and has a complex taste.
