Court, you are truly the ebike review GOAT. Your encyclopedic mind is a prospective ebike buyer's best friend. I have the Avignon now and it's everything you say it is. The Auto mode on the Avignon is genuinely a game changer. You can hop on and just enjoy the ride. I live in the hilly Pacific NW and when approaching a steep incline, I used to have to calculate what gear I needed to be in at what point. No longer. The Auto mode automatically and silently selects the proper mode to continue your cadence. And as Apple says, it just works. It differs from eMTB mode because it only used the top two modes, Sport and Turbo. The Gazelle's Auto setting uses the full range of assist modes.

You are wrong. Bosch has a smartphone attachment instead of the display and, yes, it charges your phone from the battery. It was visible on the site that you showed in the video. Very strange that you missed it.

Love the dutch lock and the swept back handlebars. In the US, it's so hard to find a front suspension fork combined with low step and swept handlebars. Great combo here.

Will the leather grips on the Avignon with the integrated bell on the left side fit on the new 2023 Ultimate C380? I like the leather grips better than the ergonomic rubber grips and I think the bell on the Ultimate C380 clutters up the handlebar (which I know I can always remove). Thanks for posting this short review of the Avignon. There aren't that many reviews online here in North America.

I think that most grips are cross compatible, so the leather ones with the integrated bell should work. I like those ones, so I can totally understand why you'd want to swap them in! The only challenge might be finding where to buy them! I looked on Amazon and around online but didn't see them. I think they are called Velo leather grips with integrated bell.

@@ElectricBikeReview Thanks Court. I think I found Gazelle's version of the leather grips on a site called hollandbikeshop. I did a test ride of the Avignon and found it to be a solid, stable ride, but I couldn't get past the swept back integrated handlebar and stem setup. It felt like I was driving a bus which was a shame because I really liked the Avignon otherwise. I ended up ordering Gazelle's 2023 Ultimate C380 at our LBS. It was a sportier ride that still allowed a more upright position, but not as upright as the Avignon and allows for more customization.

Downside to the cafe locks is that the key has a tendency to snap of when you hit it unintentionally. It happened to me on a Dutch bike twice on the same bike so I decided not to replace it again.

The Ultimate 380 HMB comes with a Kiox 300 display and also acts as a digital key.

Yeah, it's pretty neat to have the electronic disable feature appearing on many of the Bosch ebikes now. The geo-fence activation is also handy, and saves time vs. a manual password on the display.

I just put the first 50miles of beach riding on my first eBike, the Himiway Zebra. I originally incorrectly assumed that my purchase would put an end to my years long crusade of binging eBike reviews on KZbin, but here I am. lol. Now when I watch reviews, I compare all to my bike looking for ideas of how I would like to see my bike improved. I have already started modding my Himiway. so far just the basics. A stem riser, adjustable stem, thumb throttle adapter, suspension seat post, cloud 9 seat, accessory bar, rubber pedals for barefoot use, some additional down firing lighting and a seat post storage bag. I would like to see what a direct competitor to the Zebra from Gazelle would be like. Some of the items I see here that I would like to see on the Zebra would be; 1- A top loading battery. ( I do not see why Himiway put the battery bottom loading. For many reasons, one being as you mention but also Himiway states that when the bike is in transport (hitch rack on a vehicle) the battery must be removed. However, there is no plastic blank cover to install in place of the battery, so the compartment is exposed, the underside and internals, even exposed terminal contacts to the road conditions and elements for hours upon hours. Given the cover they sell, like most, leaves the bottom open it sets up the perfect storm for damage to the battery area electrical elements. 2 - continuously variable transmission, 3 - carbon belt, these are extra money, but I would still like to see these parts implements to replace the more traditional components the bike currently has.

Great insights... I've noticed some brands like Rad Power Bikes use a little rubber cover for the terminals when their battery packs are removed. The inside bay can still get dirty, but the important parts are protected. Their batteries are top mounting as well. Cloud 9 makes an excellent seat! You've chosen some amazing upgrades, and the Zebra sounds like it's very comfortable now :D thanks for sharing!

Court, are you familiar with the ADO 28 e bike? I believe they are using a crowdfunding campaign for this newest bike. It’s a single speed with belt drive and a 350W motor with torque sensor. Hydraulic brakes and a battery hidden in the down tube of the seat. Seems like a lot of e bikes are going the route of single speed belt drive. The bike weighs about 46lbs. You think this bike could be efficient with single speed.

Key is perfect, you don't need to attach your house keys to the bike keys. It's simple and also prevent loss of bike key.

I like this Gazelle, but that key stuck in the cafe lock is a deal breaker for me.
@vulpeaturbata1117
@vulpeaturbata1117 Жыл бұрын
It shouldn't be. Use logic first. That key stuck there is going to remind you to lock your bike and prevent dirt from going into the cylinder even if there is a spring loaded flap. You don't have to leave all of your keys there. I use a small carabiner on my keychain, so the bike key can be easily removed when used and stay separated from the other keys. NO, you should not leave your keys dangling near the wheel, that's ridiculous🙂... I don't understand how can the author of this channel not see that simple solution.

@@vulpeaturbata1117 The idea to "Use a small carabiner on my keychain, so the bike key can be easily removed" is to the detriment of prior claim, that your keys being stuck there is going to "remind you to lock your bike"

This is a security feature, most Dutch cyclists have their bike key on a separate keyring to their house keys, usually with their mini supermarket Points Card:-) It becomes second nature to get off the bike, lock it, and enter the supermarket/shop/restaurant with the key in hand. Also, the insurance company will demand to see all keys supplied with the lock if you make a theft claim. And, as you can't copy these Abus keys without a card it becomes a show-stopper to lose a key, making Dutch cyclists more anal about their key than before!!
@Cratic1321
@Cratic1321 Жыл бұрын
Paracord fob works well to separate the key and easily reattach to you main keyring. Won't forget the key or forget to lock the bicycle as much since the process becomes habit.

I noticed that some locks require the key left in, and some do not. There are pros and cons to each solution, but I prefer the option to remove it.

That key issue is kind of a dealbreaker for me, but not necessarily for the same reason. For me, the concern would be that if I park the bike and walk away, leaving the key in, that some mischief maker could lock my bike and take the key and my bike is bricked. Of course, I would generally remember to lock the bike when circumstances dictated, but humans forget sometimes, and there are places that might be considered “secure” from theft, but not necessarily mischief.

Why would the light be on the unsprung part of the bike?
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview Жыл бұрын
I see this a lot actually, and I think it has to do with positioning the light away from the shifter and brake wires. If the bike has no suspension, then the crown of the fork is a fine place to mount a light, although it could still get blocked by the fender and tire. I prefer up high at the stem or on the handlebar, but that area can get cluttered, especially with a display on an ebike. There are good solutions however, and up high makes you more visible in general, especially if the light has side cutouts, and it’s unsprung and points where you steer and clears trays and baskets. Here’s a great example: electricbikereview.com/surface-604/colt/

@@ElectricBikeReview I own a C380 and there are a few perplexing decisions I didn’t expect to find on a bike from a “company with 100 years of experience” as people like to say. The light on mine has pretty good placement, but requires manual tilt adjustment constantly to avoid blasting pedestrians and alternatively just to see ahead for like 8 mph travel. I bet handlebar placement and a brights option would help a ton for a commute bike. My car’s lights actually keep the full beam on at all times and the brights button just moves a little disc that blocks the light so more of it shows. That sort of cleverness would go a long way on a commuter bike.

Been watching you since your Prius video. I find it hilarious and odd you haven’t addressed the elephant in the room that is Lectric bikes and you continue reviewing this niche / boutique bikes that no one is going to buy at $4000-$6000++++ what gives? I’m about to unsubscribe

I've covered some Lectric models in the past, and will probably review them again in the future. When I travel or visit a shop, I tend to review anything they have that I haven't covered yet for that particular model year. I also noticed that many other channels have covered Lectric recently... even though many of them are affiliate and might have a more generous perspective. electricbikereview.com/brand/lectric-ebikes/
