@@blackcid there's lots of other kinds of magic that people can use that is mentioned more in the source material. Like healing magic for example. Most of the magic they use in the anime is stuff designed for combat. It's also explained in the source material that in the past before those computational jewels were invented, magic took forever because you had to draw all the magic circles and everything by hand. Basically, the jewels they where around their neck is a magical computer that does all the complex stuff needed for magic super fast. So that mages don't have to do everything by hand anymore.

S2 for Tanya is in the works but we currently have an amazing 12ep season and a super cool movie to watch. It's an insanely good animated show for a studio's first production. Btw to clarify the series isn't technically actually called Saga of Tanya the Evil but that is its localised English name that the publisher thought sounded cooler/better. In Japan it's known as Yojo Senki or a direct English translation would be The Military Chronicles of a Little Girl so the publisher was right their title does sound a lot better.

The title may sound better in your opinion, however it is very misleading. It is not about her being evil, she is just selfish. An example of high functioning sociopath. In proper position she may be a pretty good person to others, just that war corrupts people and her as well.

The creator of Overlord and this show are friends with each other. Which reflects onto the respective characters as well. I highly recommend watching this show alongside Overlord. Reactions to both would be nice. Then there is ISEKAI QUARTET show where we get a crossover.

There was an announcement for season 2, but that was a couple of years ago, so it got put on the back burner. =( "She can't be a soldier! She's still a kid!" *laughs in Tanya enrolled when she was like nine-* That fanart background is a very sweet Tanya smile. If you wanna see how she ACTUALLY smiles, look up the light novel covers of volume 7 and volume 12. Also, the anime captures her insanity perfectly. This is a war anime that deals with magic weaponry. Tanya's greatest enemy is God, whom she calls Being X. Basically who put her in that suffering world, trying to make her a believer. All it's done is made her hatred burn brighter. The ending song(done by Tanya's VA, the incredible Aoi Yuuki) has art done by the light novel artist, just like Overlord. =) If you wanna hear Aoi Yuuki's voice at its peak performance, listen to both endings of So, I'm A Spider, So What? It will blow your mind! How she hasn't damaged her voice is a miracle!

The show is grim, but not always. It doesn't gloss over the horrors of war, nor does it glorify them. I think it applies the appropriate amount of shock value, the same way someone holding up a mirror would. It has its moments of triumph, and the kind of gallows humor that is typical of soldiers. The characters are great, and the story is just fantastic. If you like war movies at all, if you're enjoying Overlord, I think you will really like this one too. I guarantee that whatever you are expecting, you will still be surprised. The ending song Los Los Los is mostly in Japanese, but the chorus is in German: "Feuer! Sperrfeuer! Los! Achtung! Deckung! Hinlegen! Halt!" which is roughly; "Fire! Rapid-fire! Move! Danger! Take cover! Go prone! Halt!" I highly HIGHLY recommend watching a full version with the English subtitles on. They are a ride. Saga Of Tanya The Evil aka Youjo Senki has one season (12 episodes), a movie (which is a direct sequel and the equivalent of 6 more episodes) and a second season is in production.

The Anime is pretty short at the moment but luckily we got a movie already and I think the second season is currently in production. I can definitely recommend listening to the movie theme song which is called "Remembrance" and was made by Myth & Roid, the same band that created the opening! Also you might already have read in a comment or two that parts of the ending as well as the title itself are in German. That's because in without spoiling anything you should know that the anime revolves around a fantasy version of a world war (Magics exists in this world which is why you could see them flying) that is pretty much set in the time between WW1 and WW2 and our main character is fighting on the side of the "Empire" which is basically this fantasy worlds version of Germany! Also if you enjoyed the ending then I can only tell you to listen to the full German cover by Selphius. It is mad how well the song and it's lyrics work in German and to put the cherry on top you can also enable the English lyrics so you get the full experience! The interesting thing about Youjo senki is that it has 3 completely different forms: light novel, manga and anime. And the difference is huge. Light novel is more about descriptions of situation, political, economical and social ramifications of global war through a prism of inner monologues of protagonist, manga is more epic and funnier version of the story with great visuals and more accurate representation of magic. Anime is something between, worse worldbuilding and magic, lack of explanations how anything works etc. But to be honest I think it is extremely hard to create an anime based on such source material like a light novel where the whole chapter can be an inner monologue of Tanya.

The singers again were MYTH & ROID. Just like a lot of Re:Zero and Overlord openings. There's one more notable show in this isekai group that has MYTH & ROID as their opening singers. It's called Cautious Hero. It's also a good show, but sadly it's short with only one opening. It's not as dark as Overlord or Re:Zero or Tanya the Evil, but it's a comedy and it absolutely smashes that genre. From the title of the show I imagine you can already guess what it's about.

Both these songs fit the vib of the anime perfectly. Jingo Jungle by Myth & Roid (Opening song) is a propaganda song meant to inspire the masses to war. Imagine being at Nuremburg Square, Massive Bonfires raging everywhere millions of people crowded in & around the square while Myth & Roid are on the podium singing this song getting the masses into a frenzy. Then the Leader comes up to the Microphone to inform everyone that there will be war w/ the Republican Forces to take back whatever territory was lost from the previous conflict decades ago. The crowds go racing to recruitment tables to sign up. The second song LOS, LOS, LOS by Yuuki Aoi (ending song) is Tanya talking to her troops before battle. I like to imagine this song is taking place just before the battle of Tiegenhoff. The 203 Aerial Mage Battalion is surrounded by at least 10 divisions of Federation troops, plus its entire airforce & a volunteer battalion of foreign nationals. Faced w/ either victory of complete annihilation, Tanya stands on a wooden crate before her men speaks this eloquent rallying speech.

The Japanese title Youjo Senki roughly translates as The Military Chronicles of a Little Girl. And I don't consider Tanya evil. The only thing she does that is somewhat evil is at the end of the first episode. There is currently one season that has been released, an OVA that follows immediately after the last episode of the show, then a movie that follows right after the OVA. And there is currently a second season that is being developed. I think it is supposed to be releasing this winter or sometime next year. The show is an absolute blast. Literally. You would probably love it. Also, there is actually a second ending. The ending you listened to is meant to show how Tanya's enemies and allies see her while the second, slower paced ending is meant to show how she actually feels on the inside. Finally, the show is based around an alternate WWI with little bits of WWII tech thrown in and it occurs in a world where magic exists. Tanya is flying cause she is a mage and she can use a gun bigger than she is cause she uses magic to enhance her strength.

You do realize that it was totally random that they got got killed in a *reinforced, artillery* bunker of all things and that Tanya just took advantage of it to make a point of it on Viktoria? No, the real real questionable act was the city in ep7? they had to suppress for the artillery to destroy with the civilians.

@@Slayer398, that was a pill box. Not an reinforced bunker. Pill boxes are not really that sturdy. They are mainly meant for anti personnel defense. She put them there specifically because she knew that it would be hit by an artillery strike. It was just a matter of time before they got killed. As for the city, the destruction of the city and its populace was completely legal. The people were warned that they needed to evacuate because anyone left in the city would be considered an enemy soldier. They choose to stay, so they choose to fight and die. I will admit it was morally grey. But the way I see it, if the empire wouldn't have crushed the rebellion as quickly as it did, then it would have put a severe strain on the front lines and potentially allowed an enemy breakthrough that would have put the empire on the backfoot. Plus, if the people who choose to resist wouldn't have been exterminated, the people who survived would have had a deep hatred for the empire. Even if the empire would win the war, it would only be a matter of time before the people that hated them who'd been allowed to live would begin conducting terrorist attacks on imperial forces and the fatherland. Nevermind the fact that the people would have likely crated a resistance movement that would have severely hampered the empires ability to wage war. The resistance would have spread far beyond the boundaries of the city. In short, the antihalation of that city was the most effective course of action that would give the empire the best chance to end the war as quickly as possible and save as many imperial lives as possible.

@@sherrykathman3309 Firstly, I know it's legal. I've defended the position before, however, from a *moral* standpoint it's quite questionable quite honestly. Whether the civilians had gotten themselves into that situation or not, the end point is they *are* civilians. Hence why you see the quiet in the ready room before the attack or the hesitation by the artillery. Second, they stated in the anime (and in the LN it's based on it's states to be a artillery bunker) they say it's a artillery bunker and behind the lines. As I said, it was a lucky round for them to be killed in the rear, where Tanya was dumping them off. Vicious she can be, but she can't predict 1 in a million artillery rounds. Just to reiterate the LN and manga clearly state Tanya just took advantage of their deaths to her reputation.

That's from Season 1. Last year there was a Movie that was a direct continuation, but it didn't get its own OP or ED. Season 2 will actually be airing next year, in early 2023. It was supposed to come out this season, like, right now, but it got pushed back for next season. It was supposed to originaly come out around about this time last year, but then that thing happened... the one that I'm not sure I can name without the comment getting deleted... (Talking about Covid-19 I wrote that cuz I see many people censoring it for whatever reason, so yeah.)

Even the government in the show is not to happy that they have to let a child serve but because she volunteered to become a mage and went through and officer course the law required her to serve a certain amount of time, so they tried to keep her out of combat, but it did not work.

Ah suggestion for the future, when an anime only has 1 opening I'd recommend also checking out the full version, because what you are usually checking out are the TV size versions which are only 1:30 long versus the usual 3 o 4min long full song. Cheers

Tanya Von Degurechaff is very much a soldier. She doesn't end up getting called "The Devil of the Rhine" and "Rusted Silver" in the light novels for nothing. If you liked the two songs in the Japanese versions, you should check out Selphius' German translations. They are unhinged.

The Ending was sung by Tanyas Voice Actress herself, Aoi Yuuki, who also voiced Clementine from Overlord and the Spider from "So I am a Spider, so What"!!! Also, not much of a spoiler, but to explain what war this is: . . . . . . Based on an alternate version of WW1, with similar technology and warfare methods, the biggest difference is the use of magic, which might sound strong and they have their use, but the likes of Artillery and bomber aircraft still pack more punch. You can best compare the mages to a helicopter due to their flexibility in usage, with slightly better self defense This version of WW1 still has its main focus on the war between their version of Germany and France, with the likes of Russia, Britain, the US and others appearing aswell they are never named that directly, but similar enough and a map of Europe is used quite often too

Overlord, Reincarnated as a Slime, and Saga of Tanya the evil were my top 3 faves for a while. I know you needed a nice, happy, wholesome series to watch in between aot episodes earlier, but I wasn't caught up. Reincarnated as a Slime is the perfect, wholesome pick-up, as late as this advice might be.

I'd describe Saga of Tanya the Evil as a brutal, pitch-black comedy. On one level, it's a series of war stories that alternately encourage sympathy for the characters and shock at what they're driven to do-- nationalism written as tragedy. On another, it's an escalating battle of wills between a questionably-benevolent "God" and a defiantly, ruthlessly, mercilessly rationalist champion of human free will. (Tanya's eyes in the closing credits are inspired by the descending circles of Hell in Dante's Inferno.) Neither comes off as a very positive force; only one of them can really be blamed for the state of the world, but the other's agency within the world serves mostly to darken it further. It's evil versus evil, with a whole world of struggling, suffering humans caught between them. The overarching theme linking it all together is the constant absurdity arising out of a struggle to even just survive in a world gone utterly mad.

Given this seems to be getting a continuation, keep in mind that there's many, many anime's that only get one season of animation and thus only have one opening and ending for us to enjoy. Some have real bangers still. Also don't get too stuck on common knowledge and logic when trying to understand anime visuals. There's a coined term "anime logic" which means there's enough instances and stuff happening that's just not logical but it exists in the world of anime and best to just embrace it. One common such thing being the disproportion of character visuals and their age. Not saying it's the case here, but it's common to have a lil girl looking to be around 10 when they're some kind of 1500 year old being. Opposites also occur, teens looking like they're 30-40 yo.

It's certainly more WW1, but due to taking place later in time than the real WW1 there is a few WW2 elements as well

I heard they confirmed season 2 for this anime coming in 2023, also atm there is a 1 season and 1 movie that is the sequel to s1.
