Well, Prince Albert was German and Queen Victoria was half-German, so it was only natural for them to both speak English and spend a lot of time in German lands. In fact, Victoria only spoke English at public events. At home, she only spoke German, even well past Albert's death.

@@DraculaCronqvist Really? Wow! "At home, she only spoke German" Not disputing it, but I wonder if you have sources to back it up? @countshrubula5997

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that Victoria never left Britain, only going as far as the channel Islands. And yes whilst Albert was German and Victoria had most definately very German heritage being if the house of Hannover, I'm not disputing she spoke German but I doubt she spoke it all the time if at all outside of diplomatic meetings with German officials or something along those lines. I might be wrong, I might be right but hey just putting my voice in.

I admit Mat got me hooked, but pretty soon I started to appreciate the others too. Now I honestly don't know who I like best. They all are matched to their characters so well. This is my favorite sketch with Ben too, followed closely by The Borgia family song. I know he doesn't have any solo lines but his facial expressions do it all. And let's not forget his underrated moment in the Dick Turpin song. Everybody is swooning over Mat (not without good reason) and Ben's "is this real life right now?" moment goes unseen.

@LittleDirtyBlonde23 actuallt, George II was also born and raised in Germany. unlike his dad though, he was more willing to associate with the English (partly b/c he hated his dad-long story there), and learned to speak good English-though with an accent. it wasn't until George III that a King of that dynasty could be said as being born and raised in England.

Can't remember anything about 2, but wasn't George 4 the disgusting IRL ugly bastard who bankrupted the country by spending way too much on wine, prostitutes, and special sex furniture because he was too fat to fuck normally? In America we give George 3 the villain treatment, but he really wasn't that bad, mostly. The policies that led to us revolting were more the fault of acts of parliament he couldn't do too much about, and the actions of various ministers, bureaucrats, and officials rather than him. He was more than reasonable in dropping hostilities with America after the war, having normal trade with us, and not even trying one little bit of reconquest, just to be petty. When he wasn't being slightly crazy, he was seemingly running for World's Most Reasonable Monarch.

@floridarocks567 ... either they convert to the Church of England (Protestant) or stay Catholic and lose your place in the line of succession to the throne. George III wasn't all that batty, though, because he said he would pay off George IV debts if he married Caroline of Brunswick... also, ensuring a legitimate heir to the throne (which was their only child, Charlotte, who later died in childbirth...)...

@floridarocks567 ... as far as debts and duty were concerned, George IV had no choice. Going back to the song, do you remember the lines which go: ' but the wedding caused all sorts of strife, 'cause I already had a wife...' NB: George IV married the twice-widowed Roman Catholic, Maria Fitzherbert, some time before, in secret. George III interjects: 'A DIVORCED CATHOLIC?!' George IV:'...dad did sigh but the mad old goat just wouldn't die!' ...

To be honest that bugs me a little bit too. And he didn't really die of diarrhea. He might have had it at the time but according to the autopsy, his cause of death was aortic dissection. (Same thing that killed John Ritter and Lucille Ball.) @stupidintellect90 ... then Ben would turn round and watch us struggle to compose ourselves. We would tell him about the Garibaldi biscuit and he'd quip: ' I thought Garibaldi plays for Chelsea!' He would then recognise us as the urban tent dwellers (with the non-existant cat that pinches socks from his washing line! ) who drink his tea and raid his biscuit tin. He would be so impressed with our wit/cheek that he pays for our coffees and biscuits...

@stupidintellect90 I've also gained a friend (your good self).... and a share in the exciting secret life of urban tent dwelling, laundry theft (but returning the goods) and supping tea with Ben Willbond - plus biccies for dunking ;-) . Garibaldis are nicknamed 'squashed flies' up in my neck of the woods. Did you know they are named after the founder of a united Italy (1870, if I'm not mistaken)? ... George IV's marriage to Maria Fitzherbert was declared invalid - but, for the rest of George IV's life, he still regarded her as his true wife and loved her. The wife he could not stomach was Queen Caroline of Brunswick. Once married, they produced an heir and his debts were paid - so, as far as George IV was concerned, Caroline could bog off out of his sight... If George III interjected with: 'A WIDOWED CATHOLIC!?' instead, then the song would be factually accurate... Helpful?

@stupidintellect90 Hmmmm... rich tea for you and ginger nuts (hence my name) for me. We could always dip our biccies in his tea, can't we? He could return the compliment by dipping his favourite biccie into our respective mugs. So, BBC security would be entertained by us hanging onto his person. 'It's OK, we are trying out a new sketch for HH about Greco-Roman Wrestling!' we'd explain. Ben would HAVE to concur... with his trademark sweet smile :-) Ahhh... the sweetest life! *sigh*

@floridarocks567 Yes, it is confusing. I'll do my best to explain myself better... In the song, George IV sings that he only married Queen Caroline (because he was up to his neck in debt). NB: Caroline of Brunswick was a Protestant, which ticked the boxes for the British monarchy because of the Act of Settlement, which prohibited Roman Catholics from the throne. To this day, any Catholic who marries into the Royal Family have two choices...

...We calm down and go from fangirls to sensible in 3...2...1 when we all sit down and have a good, long sensible chat/giggle about HH, tap dancing, the Royal Albert Hall, his on-location crib and lack of comforts therein and other things. Our respective coffees go cold (we sink them quickly), Ben poses for pictures with us, autographs our napkins and other items... and we club together and buy him coffee and a muffin of his choice as a big thank you. Imagine if Garibaldi appears in Series 4...

@stupidintellect90 Loooooooove the scenario! Don't forget to pack a permanent ink marker for the autographs! I love the cafe scenario, too. This is mine. Not as good but... You know the Alexander the Great scene, where Ben whispers 'Alexandria. OK?' into Mat's neck, don't you? Imagine standing in the queue, waiting for a coffee, and Ben is right in front of us! We'd probably whisper into his ear 'Garibaldi! OK?' before drawing a long sniff... and breaking into a fit of giggles! ...

@REDCARJAMES1 Born 2 Rule actually sounds a heck of a lot better for the factual 'tweaking', courtesy of the BBC Proms! I wish the HH team would do a further tweak with George IV's solo song ... from 'divorced Catholic' , which is erroneous. There is NO divorce in the Roman Catholic Church whatsoever. Maria Fitzerherbert, George IV's invalidated wife, was a twice 'widowed Catholic' . It is accurate and will still fit the song.

@ellybrandt4 I wonder how many compliments Ben gets for his accents from his peers? I also wonder how many of them are from citizens of the countries in question? Some actors worry that they get it wrong, in spite of dialect coaches. Hopefully, Ben dips into the comments on YT and spots your reply :-)

@SuperGingernutz ....I wonder what biscuit he'd offer. I won't take oreos as even though I adore them, they do get my fingers mucky. maybe a rich tea, no one can get messy with a rich tea. I just love the image of me hanging on to his ankle.....hang on I can see you running down the corridor and rugby tackling him. Yep, now there are two girls he'd have to take to work...so now begins our future in writing for HH that we spoke about briefly;) Life would be sooo sweet!..............

@SuperGingernutz Don't forget temporary siamese twins or rather triplets in his working hours as well. Founder of Garibaldis would make a truely awesome sketch, for the horrible part all they need is to shoot a close up of someone eating it with a raisin hanging off their lip. euurhhh! I've just been reading through the timeline of our comments and thinking what would our reaction be if we were to actually meet him? FIrst off, I'll need to first spot him at leat 100m away.....

@SuperGingernutz Hello there again. I'm in total agreement. You know how people camped outside to see the premiere of Harry Potter, well give me his address and I'll be there with my tent! Not in a stalker kind of way, of course(!) but wouldn't that be the best thing: 7:15. Ben wakes up and eats some toast. 8:20 leaves home and winks at person in tent 9:00 becomes a bit edgy as person in tent hugs his feet. 10:00 at the BBC with girl reluctant to leave him! I CAN GO ON FOREVER!!

@SuperGingernutz ....to get the squeelling and jumping like a lunitic out of my system without being seen by him. Then I'd follow him to see if he goes into some kind of restaurant, cafe or public transport, because conversations on the street are never long. Perfect scenario: Cafe. I walk in, stand about a meter away, order my coffee, and pretend to have just recognised him ;) Get talking, and not come across as the OTT fangirl that I am! Then I'd film him on my mobile and get him to...
