FAQ:
Q: Who did what?
A: DwainiumB made the original lap 1 for this course to which I built this run off of. The beginning of this run until the end of the first turn is his, and then I used the rest of his lap to learn the course and improve off of his ghost.
Q: How do you travel over the water without losing speed?
A: When you hit a very specific point at a specific angle at the edge of an island your bike will get enough air to clear the gap and land on the other side without touching any offroad. These points that you need to hit are so precise that trying to hit them in real time is essentially luck, which is why in RTA you would just hop over the gaps.
Q: Why did you brake randomly? Doesn't that lose time?
A: Yes, it does lose time. But like I mentioned above, you need to hit very specific positions in order for your bike to get air over the gaps. So sometimes your bike's position is too far forward and the only way to get it into the correct position is to slow down.
This is a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS). This time will not count on any real rankings.

Notice how that ramp slows you down when you touch it. If I didn't brake there I would've touched the ramp a frame earlier, meaning I would've started slowing down a frame earlier. This is a common problem you face in a lot of places throughout this game where losing time intentionally sometimes puts you in a better position to get a better interaction.

@@racingworldrecords5698 No I only did it on lap 2 because my position relative to the ramp is slightly different each lap. On lap 2 my position was far enough away from the ramp that I wouldn't have to brake a lot to hit it a frame later. On lap 1 and 3 my position was closer to the ramp so I would have to brake more to hit it a frame later. So it ended up not being worth it on those laps.
