I was chatting with friends last night and mentioned that my dad had been on Winner Takes All in the '70s. None of us could remember the show, so we looked it up on youtube and clicked on the link to this video. I was astonished to see that it was the episode featuring my dad as a contestant! Thanks for uploading it, my dad passed away in 1996, so it was quite something to see him again; even though he didn't win and "Take All".

Question: When a champion decides to return on the next show, does the champion play the qualifier round as well as the finals?

3.27 he says Phillip you sit down then and you " looks at his card, because he's forgot her name" and says Betty, and this wasn't live as such, they'd have rehearsed prior to filming, like bullseye it was done on the cheap, they'd spend about 4 hours filming 4 episodes, at the end of each, it'd be " see you next week" That was Jimmy Starbucks, Tarbrush, Toothbrush or what ever name the diamond stealing thief used and it was off to play golf for the next few weeks

1:22 - What font is this for the 'Winner Takes All' logo? This is also used on the logo for 'Elvis Duran and the Morning Show' as well as the CarQuest logo.

For anyone still interested I think it's called "Marvin Visions" and was used a lot in the 1970s, particularly on book covers.

Winner Takes All (1976). 15.10.24. I recall winner takes all. Tarby's crummy patter...don't get me wrong his patter was part of the show....and wheeler's erudite manner kept the show from falling apart...

I wonder what is cut out at 25:03. Challenge[TV} have shown this episode twice with that edit in place. I wonder if they did it or if it was edited in 1976.

This show went on for year's, Huge audience figures and multiple host's, couldn't stand it, but there was only 3 tv channels back in the mid 70s so it was either this or looking at paint dry, by the mid 80s it was still on, and still looked outdated, when did it finally end, it must have been engrained in everyone's mind like a brain tumour

Winner Takes All hosted by motormouth Jimmy Tarbuck 76-84 and his colleague Geoff Wheeler took over from him in 84.

It was actually 1987 when Geoffrey Wheeler became the host as the show moved to a daytime slot that year.

Geoffrey Wheeler invented WTA after years of presenting Top Of The Form & seeing seemingly intelligent pupils wilt at the dreaded reply of "I don't know the answer" . WTA offers the answer & both contestants can be right of wrong.

I'm guessing the shows host is new to television, he seems nervous and doesn't appear to no what to do or say, very awkward to watch, he tries and fails at poor jokes. Wonder what Happened to him, guess he had his 5 minutes of fame and disappeared for ever
@MrDannyDetail7 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you're serious or not.... Jimmy Tarbuck had been on British television since 1964, and spent a couple of years in the sixties presenting Sunday Night At The London Palladium, which also included a game show element within each edition. This is also the second series of Winner Takes All, though the first one to be fully networked across the country. But I do agree he does seem strangely nervous and inept here, and the format of the show doesn't help as since Geoffrey reads the actual questions it means Jimmy is slightly superfluous even before the contestants started cracking better gags than him!
