I have been following this line from Tisas ever since shot show and have to say I have yet to see a negative review. That said, Graham, you made an interesting assessment that nobody else had mentioned and that was that the design was smartly done. It is interesting how so many people are quick to dismiss the brilliance behind the 70s era upper that uses the shorter guide rod and a bushing barrel. I think that people have forgotten that many a competition has been won using this platform in this format. In my opinion there is too much emphasis placed on the almost negligible advantage that a bushingless slide and bull barrel really make in the performance and accuracy of this style firearm. In any event whether bull barrel or bushinged barrel either system is inherently more accurate than any human will ever be able to substantiate a difference between from an off hand shooting session. The gun will perform only as good as the person who is wielding it. Let's not get things misconstrued because we know with zero uncertainty that not all bushing or bull barrel guns are created equal and there are some very poorly manufactured and fitted examples in both formats. I would be interested to see what your assessment would be comparing the Tisas 1911 DS Carry to its sibling the MAC 9 DS 4.25. There is roughly a 270 dollar difference between them in street price and the MAC 9 DS is fitted with a target crowned Bull Barrel, RMR optic cut, a fiber optic front sight, and an aluminum removable mag-well. I would curious to see whether you feel that the few subtle differences impacted performance enough to warrant holding out and the step up in price.

Your review on the DS is spot-on as usual. First range day for me today. Great shooter, your and Tia's comments on the trigger and weight are exact. BTW my irons were installed correctly. Easy to shoot and very accurate. Thanks again for all your work.

I enjoyed your honest assessment of firearms. Tisas seems like their quality control is good but not perfect. There is going to be small things that slip through now and again. I've seen a small number of reviews noting small things, like sights needing adjustment or fitment issues. It is to be expected at the price point. Nothing is not within acceptable parameters, for me.

I carried an M16 A2 in the Marine Corps in a combat zone. It wasn't a SAW, or a 50 Cal of course, but it was a pain in the ass. However it was a weapon I shot expert with, therefore, I didn't give a damn how cumbersome it was, I knew I could make the enemy be the hero for his country if need be, and not me for mine.

As long as the sights are adjustable/drift adjustable, needing to adjust right/left would not bother me at all, even in a more expensive pistol. When you figure in the price, it bothers me less. I don't expect them to shoot in the sights at the price point. I would have a problem with the pistol hitting low or high. It would be nice for manufacturers to develop a jig that would allow them to mechanically center the sights in the dovetail. With pistols today, that would probably zero them.

Good shooting guy’s.love that Tisas is doing the DS 1911’s now. I’m really interested in the DS night stalker and the MAC version with the mag well and such. I kinda wish they would do a full length dust cover and squared off slide but the classic lines are cool and probably fit more holster options.

I have a tisas not a 1911 but the px9 carry model. I like it alot, had adjustable back straps and side panels, shoots well and had a good trigger. Tisas is another Turkish company like canik which I believe in the future will make it big

I have been a real fan of Canik for years now and I have to say that Tisas has jumped into the same echelon as far as quality and performance to price point as Canik. To be quite honest I find that Tisas and Canik striker fired pistols have some of the best out of the box triggers next to a Walther PPQ and PDP. The value that these two companies bring to market is quite simply hard to beat. The accessories and presentation that they offer is clearly unheard of from the industry’s more notable and “top brands“. The last major company to offer such a complete package was Springfield with the original XD line of pistols, but for whatever reason they discontinued the practice.

I bought mine in March 2024. I crossed the 1000 round threshold a few days ago. Of the 1069 rounds shot, only one misfeed (and it fed on the second attempt and fired without issue). I've one extra mag for it, a DuraMag. It sometimes fails to lock back but the OEM mags do not do that, so I'm certain it's the DuraMag that's the issue. I had an issue adjusting to the non-clean trigger. The wall was too thick and I kept pulling off target when pulling the trigger. I ended up buying a new sear spring and also bought a lighter hammer spring. The trigger wall is no longer an issue after installing the new parts (the sear spring fixed the wall issue, I believe). The only real issue I have is that both manual safeties need to be blended so that they don't cut folks. The left side is blended, but the right side is not. I had the same issue with my Tisas Duty 45 1911 and I converted that to use a single safety lever. I may dremel the right side DS9 safety lever, this time. The optics cut is bad. I had problems mounting an optic and once I was successful, the dot was pointing up to the point where I thought I'd run out of elevation adjustment. When you first install any optic, the dot should be generally centered. The dot was near the edge of the glass when looking through it. Folks kept saying it was the optic that was the issue but I tried another optic and the same thing was occurring. Other folks have been complaining on forums and Reddit, as well as commenting that they're having issues on my KZbin channel, so I know it's an issue with the optics cut itself. I bought an optics shim that helps lessen the issue and lessens elevation changes, but I do see daylight under that shim (between the shim and the slide). It seems that Tisas always has issues with specs when it comes to cuts on their gun. They've had issues with their sight cuts (they're Novak style but not using the actual Novak specs). They've issues with the rails being out of spec on their Carry (Commander) models, too - the rail will not fit lights for duty size guns and will only fit one small light (TLR-1 A sub). Now there's the optics cut issue. Their main rep stated that they're currently negotiating with Novak on obtaining a license so that they can use the Novak specs in a licensed fashion. He is still stating that the optics issue is due to companies selling out of spec optics, though. They also continue to not make their CDR-sized 1911s not use the proper 1918 rail specs. I've two other 1911s that are twice the price of this gun. I think they spoiled me. This gun would also be a good gun for training courses, in my opinion, especially for folks that don't currently own a higher end 1911/2011. If I knew what I know now about this gun, I would not have bought it, sadly. I don't hate my DS9 but I'm hardly in love with it. It wasn't really my best purchase decision, but oh well...

Even though I own some polymer pistols, hardly ever do they go to the range. Usually four all-steel five inch 1911s. Two all stock and two modified. And after two or more hours of shooting, they do get heavy.

Tia hits the primer on the head. Larger metal pistols shoot comfortably best. Weight matters. End of story. Tiny sub compact light polymer pistols are a plague. Excellent review 👍👍

My first Tisas was their 1911A-1 & it was great..like all 1911's it needed around 300 or so rounds to break in properly but after that it ran flawlessly and it was easy to keep nice tight groups even with those tiny G.I. sights .. Second one is a PX-9 & loving it too...the adjustable grips are soooo much better than Glocks....just wish Tisas had kept the loaded chamber indicator when they copied part of the XD ...but since Tisas was smart enough to design the PX-9 to use readily available SIG P226 magazines instead of a proprietary magazine makes up for that....

I am 6’ tall so concealing a 5” barrel is easy. There is a market place for the 4.25” models. Turkey seems to be dominating the metal gun marketplace.

Interesting about the trigger reach/ grip circumference dimension. You would think that a double stack would have needed to enlarge the grip circumference in order to accommodate the greater round count. Great content as always! You 2 make a great team for varied content and evaluation considerations.

Thank you. The grip circumference can vary a bit from model to model. BUL Armory for example made the grip circumference of their 2023 SAS II UL a little smaller than the 2023 SAS II TAC. Not so much to require a lot of compensation, but enough that it's noticable.

Good review, as always. Tisas guns have come a long way, but I've found them to be rather inconsistent, maybe due to lack of good quality control. And the designation of "carry"? Not so much, except maybe for The Incredible Hulk.

Hey graham, i just picked up the all new sds inglis hi power miii clone. Im very impressed with fit and finish and how it shoots. Got it for $414 from Family Firearms. You should check it out. Tisas or girsan doesnt make it. It took me forever to find out from sds but its made my ozerbaz in turkey which i think is typhoon industries

Good video. Definitely a high quality budget gun...ahem, hack hack cough. If you want to talk yourself out of ever buying a price point driven 1911ish I suggest you do this. On a pricepoint gun, strip it down to the bare frame and slide. Then, take a DW, Bul, Colt, S&W, Sig, etc. (non-budget and non-Kimber) and do the same. Compare the fit and finish of the parts not visible at the gun store counter...check and you'll see on the PP gun things like plastic mainspring housings, plastic (not even fancy polymer) safeties, rusted springs, general surface rust, sights not centered, etc. Then, not only will you probably never buy another price point gun again, you may even refuse to touch one again. Folks, they aren't price point guns because the makers are doing a public service. Tisas and Girsan? Price point "project" guns. Something to learn armourer's tasks on. That's about it.

I respectfully disagree. I have a couple of Tisas & other 1911’s and I have done as you suggested. Colt, SA, Kimber all have plastic or MIM parts. My Tisas are completely forged. Only MIM is the RSA cap. Fit & finish are top notch as well…no rattle when I shake my Turks.

​@@KorbinDallasRocksthen one or the other of us, or maybe us both, is an exception. Kindly note that I said nothing of MiM parts. MiM isn't always bad anymore than forged is always good. MiM is just a crapshoot, and is usually just fine on low-round count weapons and low pressure calibers like 9mm and 45ACP. Every Tisas, Girsan, ATI, and RIA 1911 that I've ever serviced contained surface rust somewhere on interior surfaces as well as at least one rusty spring, even in NIB. I've seen multiple PP 1911s with cheap leafsprings and sears, eventually causing hammer follow issues. Takes time, but it's a when, not an if. The latest Girsan I looked at had a plastic mainspring housing, a rusted safety spring detent, a rusted safety spring, a plastic (not even high strength polymer) manual safety, and a plastic trigger shoe. Wobble? Some. A little really doesn't mean much though. You'll notice I didn't include Kimber as being in the same category as Bul, DW, Colt, or quality manufacturers. Kimbers generally don't have the interior finishing issues that PP guns have, but other than in appearance, Kimbers are an abomination. Abysmally poor quality but very pretty 1911s...also some plastic where it shouldn't be. I actually prefer RIA over Kimber, Kimbers are that bad. You'll find that even some STI (now Staccato) firearms had MiM, and with a little research you'll find that RIA even did some work for them many years ago. I stand by my comment. I'll concede that it is entirely possible to receive a poor quality firearm from a reputable manufacturer only as an exception, rather than guaranteeing a poor quality firearm from a PP manufacturer. Essentially it comes down to this. With low round count weapons shooting low-pressure calibers, there's alot a manufacturer can get away with and still have a working product.

But I’ve completely stripped all my guns and haven’t seen any surface rust. And my Tisas’ are milled & machined as well if not better than other brands. Especially the Kimber, I agree with you there. Largest price point is cost of labor in Turkey, I believe that’s the largest part of the price, I stay away from Girsan as I have had trouble with both products I bought, the Tisas however I own three and have had no problems with them with the issues you were talking about. I imagine you see a lot more firearms than I do, but I’m just stating the facts on the three that I have bought, took apart, and shot.

I have a Magnum Research 1911u that have crazy brass ejected everywhere, but mostly directly back hard into my forehead. If there is anyway to remove the slide on your tisas and take a few photos of the ejector profiles I'd be so grateful. I've already sent the gun to MR, it returned pretty much the same violent extraction in my forehead. I'm also thinking a heavier recoil spring may help but I'm at an impass. Not to mention each outing to the range is 40 bucks ... thanks in advance, that ejector profile may help

The ejector is shown in the tabletop video. You are correct, anything that changes slide velocity will change ejection pattern. Even different ammunition can do it.

I suggest you find a decent 1911 smith to look into it. One that you can speak with face to face. The deal is, changing one part on a 1911 may create other issues elsewhere. Well-meaning and otherwise highly competent DIYers provide a lot of business to 1911 smiths. Have to ask. You have obviously tried multiple brands and types of ammunition, yes? Does this happen with everyone else who also shoots it? I have to admit that if Magnum Research says the firearm is fine and they can't replicate the problem, I'm prone to trust them. Not that they can't have bad days or make mistakes, but unlike Kimber or Springfield A., they've always seemed honest and ethical.

@JD-tn5lz yes multiple shooters including range officer. It was winchester white box ball first time and pmc ball. I'm retired leo fired handguns for over 50 yrs. Your tisas would offer me a good starting point for reprofiling the ejector. If you can, just a simple photo and perhaps spring spec, The gun is brand new, I've lost faith in MR service. I don't mind having a gunsmith look at it but honestly, before getting into law enforcement I was an ASE certified auto tech, crew chief as well who rebuilt and customized dozens of drag race transmissions for customers at my own shop. Fabricated hundreds of drag chassis. I think I'm capable of a 1911 with maybe 20 parts, not to mention finding an experienced gun smith and not just a gunsmith are two different things. I was simply interested in the angle cut since your gun ejected softly. Our area gun shop doesn't have that gun, but while I'm leaning recoil spring weight anyway, seeing the ejector can't hurt. If you can't, no worries.

Mine was double feeding and ejecting the shells back into my face I sent it in they fixed the problem with double feed but the weapon still ejects shells into my face.

Try a diferent grip or different ammo. Ejection on 99% of semi-auto pistols (excluding a Desert Eagle) is a function of slide velocity.

The K100 would be closest to the B9R but more reliable and less recoil. The P1 would be more compact for carry use.

Not a very good review of this particular gun it’s more about oh it’s too heavy for me. I don’t know if I liked it so a lot of personal stuff which is fine if you are brand new to 1911’s which obviously these people are not accustomed to. Tell me about the gun how the fit and finish was tear apart. Look at the insides. See if there was any machine marks or any leftover Metal parts. Did everything seem to fit correctly how many rounds did you fire? How many failures did you have? I wanna know about the gun? I don’t wanna know about you like I said obviously they’re not 1911 people. I’ve carried a full-size 1911 every single day from 1973 until this very daynever had a problem concealing it never had a problem where at the end of the day I was going oh my gosh this thing was so heavy. It wore me out. It’s just not that heavy. Everybody’s just been convinced that they need plastic guns.
