In 1960 I was aged just 3yrs old, and stood in a que in a tiny grocers shop with my mum. Next to us is a blk man, and the first blk man I had ever laid eyes on. I remember innocently saying "mummy, why has that man got a dirty face"? (I was used to seeing coal men delivering coal, covered in blk coal dust) I didn't mean it in a bad way, I was a small child. Mum gave me that "look" and lightly squeezed my hand, which meant shush without actually saying anything outloud. I remember she said sorry to the man. I actually remember the whole situation. Can you imagine that situation in today's mad mad world. I would most likely have been done for racism and taken into care. That's how bad it's become. I'm just glad that at my age of 67, I'm on my way out of this crazy world and not just coming in.

I have a paediatric nursing background and have always been on the same page with Professor Sir Robert Winston on this one. Biology does not lie. XX =female and XY = male. I’m all for human rights but not when they override the rights of the majority. I feel the whole transgender issue completely undermines those few unfortunate individuals who are born truly intersex and need our sympathy and understanding. There usually other issues behind gender dysmorphia such as developmental disabilities eg autism or mental health issues. Sad but true but this is getting out of hand. We need more empathic health care professionals with the skills and knowledge required for a realistic and honest diagnosis no matter how difficult it may be for people to hear.

I have autism and I once asked a trans man (female to male trans person) “are you a boy or a girl” because I genuinely couldn’t tell which he was and thus couldn’t tell which pronouns he used, it had nothing to do with being transphobic. She probably asked it for the same reason.
