We were world leaders in the building of nuclear power stations in the 1950/60s with our own home grown heavy Engineering companies. These were all left to rot , sold off ,bought out , the factories pulled down and re developed usually for housing the knowledge and skill thrown on the scrap heap . Who’s going to build them now ? The French ? or I Presume all of the Engineers and scientists in the Dinghies.

Rolls Royce submitted a Scheme to do exactly that over 15 years ago, to build Smaller Modular Satellite Nuclear Power stations to feed into the National Grid when the main Urban Conurbations are located. It proposed some 20 or so Small Satellite Stations positioned over the UK on the outskirts of all the major cities which would be linked via a Network and feeding into the Grid. But No the UK's 0.2% Emissions and the Scam Green Crusade were the focus, as it raises Taxes from the masses. Very soon the Masses are going to wake up and realize that not only is all this chaos planned and by design, because it all could and should have been avoided, but the Deep State is using Tax Payers funds to support Neo Nazi Fascists in Ukraine in a War they can never win, while people in the UK are going to freeze and go Hungry this Winter. If the 'people' do not push back against this, then they deserve all they are served up by the Puppets that will just keep doing what they are told so long as the masses 'suck it all up, without so much as a whimper''..

Nigel, I am pro nuclear and live near Sizewell, however I have reservations for the new proposal, it's far too much for an important area, my thoughts are for a new SMR on the Sizewell A site, or if deemed unsuitable then by all means adjacent to the B Site, the benefits being a substantially less environmental impact and a fraction of the build time and finally being British if supplied by Rolls Royce.

I'm all for nuclear particularly small scale. But what price per kilowatt hour are they committing the British consumer to paying in order to entice investment. Since it's not a market economic model perhaps the British gov should build it outright.

Support the plans for nuclear energy? I asked both my grandparents and both gave me a wry smile and a shake of the head. When they were first made aware of electricity generated by nuclear power, they were promised cheap and unlimited electricty. So cheap in fact, there would be no ned for meters. Well Nigel as someone who lives about 12 miles from Sizewell A, B and soon C I thoroughly applaud the decision and its been far too long coming. We have paid far too much attention to the local NIMBYs many of whom have very good jobs because of these nuclear power stations and the money they generate in the local economies. The site is absolutely right given we have had 2 previous nuclear power stations there before. A is being decommissioned and the land returned to nature, B is running well and safely and will also be decommissioned after C comes on stream. Oh and by the way you are slightly inaccurate in your preface: This is the SECOND nuclear power station signed off. Hinckley Point C is now well into construction and like Sizewell has had two previous nuclear power stations in the area. The site was one of eight announced by the Coalition government in 2010.
