The NHS don’t provide psychological help for obese people who need/have weight loss surgery? That is dumb. That should be the start of treatment.

They do provide psychological help! I had a bypass on the NHS. That woman doesn't know what she's talking about 😂

I was 28 and a half stone. I tried every single method possible to lose weight and nothing got it under control. Weight loss surgery saved my life, and without it I’d of been dead. I self funded and I strongly believe I should have the right to do what’s best for me without judgement. Instead of picking at methods, let’s concentrate on the most important thing which is making a huge step towards changing our lives for the better. So any of my fellow WLS warriors, I see you and I stand with you x

Shouldn't be an NHS issue. It's just laziness by the individual. (Very few medical exceptions) By all means get your surgery but you have to pay for it - clearly you can afford the food bill!

I think most people don’t chose to have natural eye deterioration. Whereas most people know what makes them very fat and still overeat and under exercise out of choice. (Though not all obviously)

To answer the headline. Yes, obviously it is a form of cheating yourself. However I do sympathise with those compounded by other health issues to where surgery makes more sense. If surgery will help boost them into a mental or physical place to then keep it off and become more active in their life, then good for them. The effort of forcing yourself to lose it via diet and exercise is a monumental achievement for anyone and rightly deserves praise.

All wonderful tales about bariatric surgery. But you rarely hear the horrible ones. Why? Because they didn't live to tell the tale. I'd rather have a mental surgery than a physical one.

I have PCOS, a hormone imbalance, hyper-mobility syndrome with lower back issues and mental health issue. I struggle to stay alive let alone loose weight. I can’t afford a personal trainer or weight loss support! I’m on UC. I don’t over eat, however my mobility issues limit my ability to exercise. People like me can benefit greatly by help from the NHS. The professional support and financial burden taken away would be a huge relief. However I struggle to even keep to any programs. I would take a running jump at a opportunity to get help that could help my mental and physical health.

What do you hope to achieve from this surgery? To eat less. Can you eat less without the surgery? Yes. So, why do the surgery?

Weightloss surgery is absolutely not cheating. It is not a competition, people who are a normal weight are not missing out on anything because of people getting weightloss surgery. And if anyone wants to bring up the cost should be on the person not the NHS, look at the obesity related figures! Type 2 diabetes alone costs over 10 billion a year alone, then you add on other illnesses that obesity plays a huge part in other health conditions such as heart failure, asthma, cancer, stroke the cost is huge and getting bigger as we as a country get bigger. When you compare it to the average weightloss surgeries per year is 6500 which costs the NHS 65 million at the most (realistically its probably half this though as thats going on £10k per surgery which is the private cost). And while it looks like a massive cost it is a preventative messure. It is an investment into preventing that person from developing these issues because of obesity, just like stop smoking ad campaigns and clinics, vaccination clinics, cancer detection clinics. So when people say it costs the NHS money, yes it does, but in the long run it will save billions. The fact those of us who are significantly overweight are ridiculed and made to feel like crap, yes some of us have put ourselves here but you know what its a hard hole to crawl out of. Our bodies are literally working against us to prevent weight loss, add in the difficulty of moving and the emotional reliance many of us have with food. why do you think the majority of people who go to weight watchers or slimming world put the weight back on and then some? There is a lack of understanding about what it is to be morbidly obese, i applaud you if youve crawled out of this hole without help, or if you never dug yourself into it in the first place but don't judge us for taking extreme decisions in extreme circumstances that will never affect you personally.

It's called laziness! I was 18 stone and in 2 weeks I've lost almost 2 stone just by eating more fruits, gave up carbs, got my fat butt to the gym, ate more fish and chicken and drinking more water! Feeling much better and the back/leg pains have stopped and I'm breathing better! No excuse people
