@@S1lv3rdo7 Well considering I marched in 86, no, they didn't teach me. It wasn't til 90 that I worked with BD instructors. Only one of which aged out in '86. Another was the legendary Jack Meehan. ScoJo was with SCV in 92.

That's so awesome. I never marched, but our HS line (99'-2003) really looked up to you guys, specifically after Blast had came out recently, then we dug back and inevitably discovered SCV 92...Thanks for being a beast drummer, you guys inspired our marching and playing

He and Nick Angelis marched together in the 1992 SCV battery. The most underrated battery in history. Won every caption at I&E except Tympani, and the judge changed the score on that sheet to put him second.

Individual and Ensemble competition. Drumcorps compete against eachother all summer, but on one day small groups and individual get the chance to go head to head. They usually writet and arrange their own stuff and it gives them a chance to show off a bit if they are top players.

I marched with a drum corp at the VFW Championships at John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia 1969. With all due respect with the great ability these young drummers have, they are spoiled. I never had my snare drum on a stand all my playing years. We always use drum slings to carry our marching drums. I have different criteria. These guys are getting away with murder. I'm not crazy about cavalar heads but that's a different story.

I tried out for Carolina Crown snare in 03. He was the new percussion tech. I made it to A line reserves by the time individual auditions came. I didn’t know what hybrid rudiments were, and he got really pissed bc he thought I was pranking him… then he realized I was just a high schooler that was ignorant that had pretty good chops but no knowledge and he facepalmed… Ive never been so emasculated in my life when he just had his face im his hand and pointed toward the door and told me to leave.
@viawilderness2 жыл бұрын
😮 omg bro. I am sorry that happened, I remember how big Corps was back then. I would've been absolutely gutted. I never auditioned for Corps after HS (99-2003), but that is straight up gut-wrenching of a story!
@RuFi0000000 Жыл бұрын
Don't worry bro, I know your pain. I was a talented high school player and my instructor hooked me up with the Glassmen center snare, Brian Blume at the time. I was training with him up until the auditions and thought I had a pretty good shot. I was completely outclassed. I wasn't even good enough to get picked for warm-ups. Then, during the single auditions, I waited in line. I played some exercises, they were okay. Then he said, "okay, now play something to impress me." I froze. I had no idea what he wanted me to play. I thought, "Do I freestyle? What do I do here? Oh shit he's waiting, play...play DITTY!" So I started playing ditty. And I realized I could get _through_ ditty, but I hadn't really _mastered_ ditty. And after a few measures, he just took his sticks and started playing right along with me. It was totally unexpected, and I botched it entirely. There were moments where I was just sitting there, while he played passages, and I'm trying to figure out what comes next and jump back in. So he ends ditty, and I'm totally fucking embarrassed. Everyone out there just heard me botch one of the most famous Blue Devils warm-ups of all time. I'm sure everyone in line knew how to play that one. I couldn't look anyone else in the eye after that. If I could go back in time I would have tried harder for a lower division corps just to march, but the experience humiliated me so much that I actually stopped playing drums until I aged out. I regret that. Cheers bro!

I hate the sound of modern marching snare drums or, rather, I hate how high they are tuned. I'm sure the drums themselves are great, but why such a ridiculously high tuning? Sheesh!
@saladofdoom4210 жыл бұрын
Great composition and fantastic performance, of course. But I gotta say I really hate the high-pitched tuning and the way the batter heads are torqued up. Sounds OK in a line, but terrible as a solo instrument. Would sound waaay more musical if he would've just loosened the tension a bit.
