Vane's theme makes him look as if he was the protagonist.

Because he FEELS like the protagonist, or at least he at least wants to be someone the protagonist can depend on. I always loved the character themes in this game- They *really* feel like they fit the characters. Soriz is an old guy who's still having fun and doing his best to get stronger, even in his old age, denoted by the incredibly bombastic, yet simple tunes, laced with traditional instruments. Cagliostro's theme is all cutesy and relatively simple on the surface, but deeper in, you can FEEL the weight of their knowledge with the fact that their background instruments are in a GODDAMN CONSISTENT STAGGER, which is something only someone who really knows what they're doing would do.
