It's significant to me now as my world falls apart and these lamentations actually offer me comfort. That although I feel I'm like the widow, there is hope and I wait on Yah to pour out his mercy as I pour myself out

SEVEN HEBREW WORDS FOR PRAISE 1. HALLAL is a primary Hebrew root word for praise. Our word "hallelujah" comes from this base word. It means "to be clear, to praise, to shine, to boast, show, to rave, celebrate, to be clamorously foolish." 2. YADAH is a verb with a root meaning, "the extended hand, to throw out the hand, therefore to worship with extended hand, to lift the hands." According to the Lexicon, the opposite meaning is "to bemoan, the wringing of the hands." 3. TOWDAH comes from the same principle root word as yadah, but is used more specifically. Towdah literally means, "an extension of the hand in adoration, avowal, or acceptance." By way of application, it is apparent in the Psalms and elsewhere that it is used for thanking God for "things not yet received" as well as things already at hand. 4. SHABACH means, "to shout, to address in a loud tone, to command, to triumph." 5. BARAK means "to kneel down, to bless God as an act of adoration, to salute." Psalm 34:1 I will bless (barak) the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. 6. ZAMAR means "to pluck the strings of an instrument, to sing, to praise; a musical word which is largely involved with joyful expressions of music with musical instruments. 1Chronicles 16:9 Sing to Him, sing praises (zamar) to Him; speak of all His wonders. 7. TEHILLAH is derived from the word halal and means "the singing of halals, to sing or to laud; perceived to involve music, especially singing; hymns of the Spirit or praise.” 🙏🏻

We are called upon to repent of our sins. But not all affliction is because of unrighteousness. We worship in spirit and truth, not based on worldly things.

Acts 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. John 15: 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

Thank you SO much Dr. Smith for being obedient to your call from the Lord. The Lord has used you in ways that you can't imagine to open my understanding of Him, His Word and so much more. I'd love to see a class or book from you where you bring out Jesus through the OT, but I'm sure I and many others will be blessed by whatever the Lord leads you to do. May the Lord bless thee and keep thee: may He make His face to shine upon thee, always.

The beginning is a bit self-righteous. You'll encounter people like this, but Christians- we ourselves are this. Come on now.

Man, I take that back, it's not just the beginning, the whole thing is self righteous. If you read the Bible from a place of seeing how everyone else is so much less smart, righteous or faithful than you, you're reading it wrong. This takes the Book of Lamentations out of the context of the Hebrew history and tries to apply it to 21st century. It's not so helpful. The point of the story is that though Israel is wicked, and though there is natural consequence for it, God will have mercy. That is the point- this pattern will only repeat outside of the Mercy of God.
