Hhhmmm Let's cath this gutter? Y not! Nice catch. Nice job. My house i grew up in had a patio like that raised brick but the den was flush with the flat patio. It was a sliding glass door and soemtimes water seeped through. The dirt on the other side was higher all around this patio. Water did pool on the patio. Then at one point my parents had a dry well put in and all the water drained into that. the top was covered with brick so you could not see it. Polymer sand i think was not around back 30 years ago. Or i knew nothing of it and we swept sand into the joints of the whole patio every year, it worked for the most part.

Regarding that gas line. I was getting ready to dig for a project & called 811. The water guy metal-detected where he thought my shutoff should be, found metal and marked it. Problem is, the water line enters the basement on the other side; it seemed unlikely my line would come off the north-south main to the south of my house, traverse all the way north across the front, then east to where it enters the basement. I dug up the marked "shutoff" and found the base of an old mailbox post. I had them come out & try again; they were off by 40 feet. My shutoff is actually 10 feet into the lot next door.

@@GCFD Continuing Darren's question, I too was wondering why 2 pipes? I figured the configuration of the discharge, but the outflow (catch basin) looked ok. If you merged the 2 (3 inch) pipes into 1 (8 inch) pipe, the capacity [ I would think ] would be adequate, if not greater. I'm certainly NOT questioning your judgement! YOU are the pro! Not sure of what size pipes you were using, or what's available, but you get my point. 3in & 3in merged into 8 inch. Basically, 2 of 1 size into combined + 1 . 2in + 2in =6in 3in +3 in = 8in Thanx guys! Interesting Video!!

@@GCFD --- "I think i forgot to mention it. I did that for greater capacity." Shawn, Any reason to run two 4 inch pipes instead of one 6 inch pipe?
@davidnull55903 жыл бұрын
@@GMan-yv8cb ---- "3in +3 in = 8in" Nope, flow is calculated differently, At the same velocity of flow the volume delivered by two pipes of different sizes is proportional to the squares of their diameters; thus one 4" pipe will deliver the same volume as four 2" pipes. A 4 inch pipe is equivalent to **2.1** x 3 inch pipes. An 8 inch pipe is equivalent to **11.7** x 3 inch pipes.

I need to get it capped, or something, to get a positive drainage away from the house. My crawl space is dry, so there is no huge emergency, just a PITA to have to broom snow off manually to prevent it collecting. We don't get much rain at all up here or it would be a huge problem. Ultimately led to a company here in Ohio doing similar work to yours catching drains, a neighbors sump pump, and then connecting it to the street. I know the video (both parts) are a month old but I have a question. Why not route the pipe to the terracotta guttering the neighbour laid down rather than dig all the way to the curb/drain. Is it because the water caught by the guttering/channel drains could be to much for the guttering to cope with? Love the videos and the care you take to give the customer a good job
@GCFD3 жыл бұрын
that's a possibility. My philosophy is to take the water to a place where it's completely finished, so we had to go all the way to the basin. That way the water is completely out of the equation and not flooding the front yard or neighbor.
@mikel95672 жыл бұрын
Those half rounds are awful. They clog easily and are actually pretty maintenance intensive. The county road department I work at we are responsible for a few half rounds that are part of our stormwater management system. Granted these are catching road runoff and handling much more water, but we spend a lot of time dealing with maintenance issues with them. Primarily clearing clogs. I agree with Sean, running pipes to the drain is a much more reliable and efficient method than tapping into that existing half round. Now there is no worries with the water as it has it's own pipe.
