Fair play. Great ride. I can’t help but feeling that the aero helmet cannot be optimised for long distances. Every time he moves his head, he’s creating massive amounts of drag.

How does Mark get the Wahoo to last 29 hours? Or does he just use 2?
@GilbertTang2 жыл бұрын
It needs to be one head unit running consistently to (among other things) keep a contiguous Strava run. He recharges during the ride. You can see this in the film where he’s got a wire connected to the head unit on one end and presumably to a battery in the bento box on the other.

What an amazing set up and totally awesome video. I did struggle though trying to follow the "numbers" which were randomly metric and imperial. I don't "know" imperial so had to keep stopping and using my convertor on my iPhone. Sort of upset the flow.

I wonder why he didn't choose a shorter helmet. I think most researh nowadays point to a slightly shorter helmet is most advantageous in races where you can't hold the optimal headposition all the time, which is certainly the case here. Even Ganna at his hour record had a shorter helmet than Mark here.

Just to double my chances of getting this seen, I will ask the same question as on the main video. How is it that this bike doesn't need to meet the highway code? Is it because it is a record attempt? Specifically, asking about rear and pedal reflectors. 'Rule 60 At night your cycle MUST have white front and red rear lights lit. It MUST also be fitted with a red rear reflector (and amber pedal reflectors, if manufactured after 1/10/85).'
@francoisthomas49302 жыл бұрын
The socks save 26W at 33mph? Is this really fitting for riding below 20mph average for 28h+ ? I wonder if Mark's suit is fitted to his expected average speed, like the suits that were used by the men and women athletes in Kona, especially tailored for different riding speeds.
@pierrex32262 жыл бұрын
What would you use instead, wool socks?
@francoisthomas49302 жыл бұрын
@@pierrex3226 socks specifically made for his riding speed, not for 33mph when he averaged 18 If you look at the men and women's trisuits at Kona this year, they used different technologies since some guys averaged 44kph while the best women averaged 38kph
@jonnythelegs25972 жыл бұрын
In steady state air conditions at 22mph it would be 13W saving, he'll be cruising at around that sort of speed to a average 18-19mph.
@glharlor2 жыл бұрын
There is zero chance that watt savings claim is accurate in the first place.

What the hell, you sit next to a bike, showing it off, yet no biggie smalls? I just don't know who you are anymore.
@alexjohnson64622 жыл бұрын
I think you should have to be committed to one bike, and if we are going to allow back-up bikes (understandable why they have them for ultra long events) then once a bike is out of service you cannot use ut again. You have to continue riding the back-up bike. Letting people constantly switch the bikes back and forth (even if only theoretically allowable) between TT bike and hill climbing bike is ... meh... sort of undercuts the spirit of it a tad. Thats why if you take your back up bike, you should then be committed to continuing with ur rather than playing games switching back and forth. Not saying thats what guys are doing now, but you know somewhere down the road there's going to be that 'one guy' that just has to push the envelope to see what he can get away with.
@gcntech2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting Alex, very interesting point. This was a supported effort. For those that like more rules and regulations, unsupported is the way to go 🙌
