I know! I had been telling my students to always include one, in order to have 'balance' but the exam board examiner says not. In fact they deliberately choose a statement that allows for a strong opinion. Phew!

What I personally find difficult is how can we write about the effects on the reader, whilst making points that are linked to the question. I always makes points which are almost identical to the previous, and that, I feel is wrong. I don't know how to make more critical perspective points that are sophisticated and not repeated.

Alenko Rados that's the real challenge here. Really you are evaluating the effectiveness of the writer's methods. So, in saying that you agree with the statement you then need to support with evidence. The 'effects on readers' is the expansion of your agreement/disagreement

Malika Daniels I would go in order but make sure your paragraphs aren’t too long. Question 4 and 5 need the most time to write. So maybe start with them but make sure you leave enough time for the other questions because you have to find the techniques in the extract to answer

I strongly agree with the students statement as the writer makes it very imperative that Alex has been struggling to cope with his family. The use of the I strongly agree with the students statement as The writer effectively demonstrates that Alex is struggling to cope through his anger towards his family...The writer conveys and shows us that Alex has been isolating himself by lashing at his family which are the people who he is supposed to love the most. We feel sympathy for Alex because the writer makes it obvious that he is struggling with his relationships as a result of this

I don't know if this may be hopeful, the way my teacher told me to tackle this question is by doing the rule of the SITE PEEL, SITE IS basically setting, ideas, theme and events, i have to do PEEL of each of the site and link it back to it being successful as the examiner already knows its successful. she also told me do to critical judgment and also how this may effect the reader

Hello Mrs Whlan, It would be highly appreciated if you could mark my answer and give some improvements needed. How does the writer use language here to describe the effects of the weather? The writer uses powerful imagery to show the effects of the weather. The writer uses the simile "rocking between the high wheels like a drunken man" to compare a usually steady vehicle to something uncontrollable and unpredictable like a drunk man. This emphasises the harsh negative effects of the wind which "came in gusts". The noun "gust" suggests the power of the weather and the harsh effect that it brings. Furthermore, the writer contrasts the inside of the coach with the outside to indicate the harsh effects of the weather. The "numb fingers of the driver" juxtaposes the horses which were "too broken by the wind" suggesting a sudden change in environment. The adjective "numb" evokes a sense of softness and vulnerability whereas the harsh verb "broken" connotes the idea of the destruction of the horses which is further emphasised by the phrase "plodded sullenly" suggesting an urge to escape. This also makes the reader sympathise with the horses who were forced to obey the weather's cold commands. Additionally, the writer uses the complex sentence (lines 15-18) to suggest the never-ending action of the coach. This sentence also includes onomatopoeia of the verbs "creaked" and "groaned" which perhaps suggests that the coach could not bear any more movement as it was exhausted. This complex sentence also uses alliteration of "soft splattered mud" which juxtaposes the fast paced action of the "constant driving rain". The adjective "constant" implies that the weather was a constant barrier which prevented them from going on their journey. 252 words in 15 minutes. Glad I Came across this, even though I'm a gamer, education is even more important! jay-j smalls good question. No need for either (prob no time either!) Some students find a 1 sentence intro helps them get 'into' their writing. Don't spend ages on it tho!
