when comparing the ripple ad ocean wave are you referring to longitudinal and transverse waves

hlompho princess ripples in a pond and ocean waves are both transverse waves, because the movement of the water is up and down as the wave passes (imagine something floating on the surface of the pond as the ripple passed, it would bob up and down). Longitudinal waves are harder to picture because the movement of the particles is in the same direction as the wave (forwards and backwards). A slinky is good for showing the difference. Sound waves are longitudinal. Hope that helps!
