So, to spare some poor soul the trouble. Picture this: You have Windows and installed Anaconda but when you try the conda install command in the Command Prompt but its not working and says it doesn't recognise the conda command. This is because you need to add Anaconda to PATH and it's an option during the Anaconda instalation but is not selected by default as it can interfere with other software. I just reinstalled Anaconda with that option selected, mostly because after 3 hours I couldn't be bothered to look further into it. Also if when running gdalinfo --version you get a popup error saying gssapi64.dll is missing, you need to run this command: conda install krb5.

I would like to give Gdal a try, so I installed it and then imported it in Python using Spyder ... but it tells me all the functions are 'undefined'. I assume its not installed correctly, but I have been over the installation instructions many times to check and recheck everything - but still no GDAL. Maybe GDAL is good, when it works.

Hi there, thanks for an insightful piece i got this error message trying to install GDAL conda install -c conda-forge gdal File "", line 1 conda install -c conda-forge gdal ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax I would appreciate your assistance

Hi, looks like perhaps you put that conda command in a python script? Try running it directly from the command prompt/anaconda prompt/terminal instead.

Would there be any issue, if we download the gdal file via golkhe instead of the one mentioned in the sandbox tutorial ? Golkhe has the gdal wheel where as the one mentioned in sandbox tutorial is in the (.msi) format. Would there be any difference if I install the gdal wheel and then make the same environment variables for gdal?

I tried this and it kept failing to download it, is there any way I can import the one I downloaded from GitHub into conda and run it that way?
@makingsenseremotely62074 жыл бұрын
Please be more specific. Are you trying to install gdal on Mac/Windows/Ubuntu? Does it fail to install when you are using conda? Any error message? I assume you cloned the main repository for GDAL from GitHub - I have no experience with that, sorry. I would recommend to try and get the conda install to work.

@@makingsenseremotely6207 Windows, If I try to install it through the GUI it just sits there for a long time downloading but never does anything and when I use resource monitor to check to see if network traffic is active in Conda it doesn't show any at all. If I try to run the Conda install gdal command inside of the Anaconda Powershell it gives me this (base) PS C:\Users\depre> conda install gdal Collecting package metadata (current_repodata.json): done Solving environment: failed with initial frozen solve. Retrying with flexible solve. Solving environment: failed with repodata from current_repodata.json, will retry with next repodata source. Collecting package metadata (repodata.json): done If I try to download the GDAL-3.1.3-cp38-cp38-win_amd64.whl and install it using python I get this message C:\WINDOWS\system32>pip install gdal Collecting gdal Using cached GDAL-3.1.3.tar.gz (593 kB) Using legacy 'setup.py install' for gdal, since package 'wheel' is not installed. Installing collected packages: gdal Running setup.py install for gdal ... error ERROR: Command errored out with exit status 1:...................A lot follows this error. Now I did a tutorial that's supposed to fix this by creating a virtual environment to install it in using pipenv and I did all the steps and still got the error saying the wheel was not installed.....

Ok wait up the 'conda install gdal' command I reran to get the error message from before may have found a way to install it....I'm getting a bunch of stuff in the prompt that says it found conflicts and that it's examining them.
@makingsenseremotely62074 жыл бұрын
Don't use the GUI, use the conda shell and maybe try to install gdal in a new environment to avoid dependency conflicts: conda create --name myenv conda activate myenv conda install -c conda-forge gdal If you wanna try with the wheel package - don't run "pip install gdal" but "pip install GDAL-3.1.3-cp38-cp38-win_amd64.whl" instead.
