The HEROs (Highway Emergency Response Operators) are the key component of the Georgia Department of Transportation's Incident Management program. As GDOT strives to reduce congestion on the highways, HEROs will respond quickly to
GDOT HEROs have 4 goals:
• Minimize major disruption of freeway traffic flow at incident locations
• Focus on the factors that cause disruption in the flow of traffic and remove those factors
• Relieve congestion and maintain the consistent flow of traffic at incident locations
• Reduce response time to traffic-related incidents
HEROs patrol the Atlanta-area freeways 24/7. They initiate measures to reduce traffic congestion and delays, and they provide support to law enforcement, first-response and other emergency agencies. They also assist in clearing stalled vehicles from the travel lanes.
HEROs can assist stranded motorists with minor mechanical problems including tire changes, jump starts, limited gas and water, courtesy phone call and transportation to a safer area. Visit www.dot.ga.gov/... to learn more about this service.
