I love these NEMA fixtures. Brings back great memories of seeing 175 watt mercury vapor fixtures like these lighting residential streets in the '60s and '70 in Fairfax County, VA where I grew up. When I am driving down the road today and I see a new LED fixture, I picture what the mounting arm would look like with one of these installed instead, and also what the pool of light would look like on the ground and roadway below the fixture. Thanks for sharing all your cool bulbs and fixtures!

What a great find! I'm hoping to install a rather generic 70 watt high pressure sodium wall pack this weekend. I've grown to love the yellowish tint of the light. Far less harsh than an LED option would be.

I bought a first generation 201 SA a few months ago. The style is very similar, only that the head is more rounded. Unfortunately, since it was a used fixture, it did not come with the reflector/refractor assembly, and the fixture itself is slightly damaged. For example, one of the hooks for the latches is broken. So broken that in fact it's practically missing. Also, the socket is slightly chipped on the bottom. It didn't come with a bulb or a photocell, so I still need to find out if there's a label somewhere to see if it's MV or HPS, 120 or 240 volts. Otherwise I'll have to get an MV and an HPS bulb to see which one works there. As for the refractor assembly, due to the missing hook, I'll have to work a way to adapt a universal one. I have one, but it's the modern type, the one that held with screws instead of latches. I'll have to work on a way to adapt it without doing major modifications to the fixture. If everything works as it should, then I'll install it in my house to light the entrance from the street.

Ya I get it.. I wouldnt mind some medium base 150w coated ones.. I have 150w flood hps lights... they just a typical flood.. clear cover with alum reflector... the diffuser would be nice on that so it wouldn't be so glare like im assuming right ?

Wow! Very cool and a very nice find too. I can honestly say that I have never seen one of those area light-looking street lights in the high pressure sodium variety. If I have seen those types of fixtures they were always the white mercury vapor kind. It looks very interesting in yellow.

There are litterally millions of these all over lol. Every other house i drive by at night has them on the power company poles on their property. They also sell a 70w and 150 on amazon brand new. I have two of the 150 and two 70w. And 4 of these 100w GE fixtures my buddy at the power company gives me for free. He takes these down for LED lights and gives them to me. Power company just throws them in the trash otherwise

@@jeepsblackpowderandlights4305 It _really_ sounds like I'm joking right? But I'm dead serious. I honestly have never seen that style of light fixture design that uses the high pressure sodium bulbs, cobra heads of course. Maybe they just were never in use where I have lived all my life. Los Angeles.

@@albear972 possibly ? Have you driven to suburbs though where you live or houses that have acreage ? They're all over Northern Va.. NOT so much in the city well none in the city. But if you go out where people have some land and get power from poles vs underground. They're all over there. I do see more mercury vapor and metal halid ones. But id say 40% of what I see is these. My house i habe 14 acres. And the power companies pole near my barn which feeds power to my barn. House and another building. It has a 100w hps ge fixture on it. Its amazingly bright and shoots light out extremely far. It uses the large mogul based 100w bulbs. The 150-70w i mentioned you can buy on amazon. Use the smaller medium based bulb. The 150 is deff brighter, and has a much better color to it.. more yellow than orange like the 100w mogul. But the issue with the 150w is with the shorter bulb. Its more inside the reflector. So alot of light is wasted as it bounces on the aluminum top and goes straight down. Yes it expands light out as far as the 100w does but not like it should. Been thinking of getting a socket extension for the 150 to bring the bulb further down so it can spread its light 360 degrees better. In all id say the 100w is a better fixture for light spread due to the larger bulb. But the 150 is brighter in the immediate area because its well a 150w. If I can't find a medium base socket extension im going to probably replace the 150s I have with the 100w ones, save 50w each and have similar light. Allowing me to put up another fixture with the power saved. Check out my KZbin page youll see all my HID lights.. including the HPS lights.. also im a firm believer the HPs is inferior to metal halid and mercury vapor frosted bulbs. The white light is so much better than the yellow.

It’s got a coated bulb. Those mostly came with those 80s HPS residential wall packs. But you just don’t see them anymore. Not even in those. They are measly now either a clear bulb or an LED. Metal Halide can be coated too. And those are a bit more common. But the common coated HID is mercury vapor. Coated metal halide’s were pretty common in the 2000s, But not really anymore. Also that coated HPS looks like a coated MV At startup. It does turn orange like an HPS would.

@@jeepsblackpowderandlights4305 You may have to drive close to an hour away to see a house with real acreage! 🤣 and indeed I have at night but still, no HPS lights of this style. Like I said, maybe they were really never popular here? I don't know. And wow! your land is 14 acres? That is Huge! Yep yep! I'm also not a fan of the HP lights. The yellow light they create is just so unappealing. I especially dislike low pressure sodium lights! The nastiest light ever created by man. metal halide or mercury vapor all the way, but those are quickly disappearing. They had a good run. now I'm a LED supporter all the way.

This looks similar to a Sylvania B2224 that where EXTREMELY commonly found in Australia before led and t5 fluorescent took over .
@Sylvania_B22244 ай бұрын
The Sylvania B2224 uses a D2 type photocell in which look like fluro starter but are bigger and are located under the fixture. Now Australia's new LEDs use the NEMA type photocell and it is ALSO underneath the fixture.

What are the yellow and black numbers for on the light fixtures
@Parrot1752 жыл бұрын
The yellow background indicates this is a high pressure sodium fixture. Blue is mercury vapor, Red is probe start metal halide and red/white is pulse start metal halide. The number indicates the wattage. Here 10 is 100 watts. In general, a zero is left out on the end. The only exception I know is for 175 watts which is a 17, where the 5 is left off. For example, a blue 25 is 250 watt mercury vapor. Great question!

Is it possible to swap out ballasts from a MV to HPS on this? I’m almost certain I have a 201SA in MV because my head has the blue 17 sticker on it like yours and the head is identical. Any tips on where to find these? Kind of new to the game here but absolutely love the HPS lights
@Parrot1752 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you can swap out the ballast in your MV version however the mounting holes may be in different locations with HPS using a smaller ballast. I'm not sure if these are made anymore with LED taking over. You might find a HPS version of this fixture looking on eBay or at an electrical supplier.

Which is the best way to search for these on ebay? What should I type in? Any chance you have a part number handy just in case I find one on the internet somewhere? Much appreciated for the response
