From that date code, this was made on May 10th, 1990, a Wednesday. The first number is the day of the week, Monday is 1, Tuesday, 2 etc. The second number is the last digit of the year, and the last two are the week of the year. I have this same one made 05/30/90, one day younger than me haha

I have that same exact Clock Radio. And its a very good unit. it has an older GE logo. so yours may be a bit newer. but im not sure exactly of a date. maybe late 80's or early 90's.

I used to have one of those. Left it with my ex in oklahoma, kinda wish I had it still :P I liked it alot much for the same reasons as you do, small size and big sound

+lmull3 I wonder, is that like the clock radio that my Aunt and Uncle used to have in their back bedroom in California? The one they had was rectangular, with a switch for AM and FM radio, as well as a switch to turn on either the alarm or the radio. It also had the buttons you described, like "Time Set", "Sleep", "Wake", and the "Hours" and "Minutes" adjustment buttons. I believe they were plastic bar-shaped keys, all except the Snooze button which was rectangular. It also had the same alarm as your clock radio. The reason why I ask this is because I want to design a custom-made alarm clock, of that same shape, with the same quality components. Mine won't be a clock radio, but a special kind of alarm clock where you get to record your own wake-up message. Where would I go to find such good-quality components like the ones you described?

Old stuff was made about "quality" now. now it is max profit, minimal cost for building, and if it lasts a year, you got your moneys worth. When they offer protection plans now on water sprinklers for your lawn," you know ur in trouble.

What does the sleep button actually do?

I know this is old, but the answer is it turns on the radio for an hour so you can use it to fall asleep to. Never have seen anyone use it though, so I doubt it's very effective

Just completely false, the second number in the code is a 0, and the logo is the newer one, it's from 1990. I have one of these from 1987, but it uses the older logo. Please don't make up false info for no reason, it only causes issues for people trying to get info.
