The REPLACE BATTERY NOW flag is a ingenious idea since it will pop out when the battery is running low and will let the homeowner know it’s time to replace the battery. You’ll unfortunately will never see that on modern day smoke detectors/alarms.

Most of them chirp when the battery gets low and won’t let you close the case without the battery. I personally think it’s a good idea however as it would draw more attention to it.

We had a similar model. The flag would come out anytime someone walked by and rattled the floors.

When can you test the 8201-201 because I really want to hear if its higher pitch then 8201-301

I've tested it before, the Star buzzer sounds the same as the 301 and my Pyrotector HeathKit

Are these things worth anything? I have one in good condition. I inherited the home I was raised in and it is still hanging there. I'd hate to throw it away if it's something people collect.

You'd be surprised, throughout my collection of nearly 100 vintage units, only a few don't sense smoke anymore. I have a few vintage alarms hanging throughout my house currently, on duty powered. As for these old GE's, they're getting harder and harder to find as people replace them and throw them away.
