Discovered my ac was dripping water inside. What a mess! It turns out that the pump was not running to move the water out to the condenser.

Thanks for posting this. Just bought a "new" store return for super cheap that had an error and I was able to fix it. Since your video is currently the only place on the internet I see with actual troubleshooting, I'll drop this here in the hopes it will be useful to someone in the future. This unit has 2 sensors for the condensate pump. The primary that you talk about around 2:47, and the backup sensor that is just to the left and hidden behind the evaporator. Both sensors are identical powered ring floats - a captured floating ring on a vertical spindle that sends a high trigger when water causes it to float to the top. Two wires are hooked up to constant +5vdc/gnd, the other two wires are the sensing outputs: ~.1vdc is low (not triggered) and ~4vdc is high (triggered). You cannot get to the actual sensors without disassembling the entire evaporator unit and pulling the bottom pan (unit has to be uninstalled from the window to do this). If you need to probe the sensors with a multimeter, taking off the saddle cover then two more metal plates will reveal the control board with all the inputs. Primary is labled 'CN11' and backup is 'CN9'. The pump itself is 'CN6' The computer isn't smart enough to know whether the pump is actually working (it just sends out the voltage). But using the state of these two sensors combined, it can attempt to guess and has the possibility of throwing 2 different error codes: P1 if the primary has been triggered for around 5 minutes but the backup is still open (computer thinks sump is mostly full, but water is going somewhere since it hasn't triggered the backup) and FL if the primary and backup are both triggered for about 30 seconds (the sump is full and water isn't going anywhere). In both cases either the pump is bad/clogged or the sensors themselves are bad/clogged.

Pull the water filter more frequently too. I've noticed it clogs up after a vinegar flush. I'm guessing it's because the growth breaks free on the vinegar and then gets sucked up by the pump

Thanks for showing the insides of this unit!! No one else has content on this model, this is extremely helpful. I have some thoughts on taking the unit apart and separating the two units and supporting the units on its own brackets respectively for a difficult install. The application would be much like a mini split unit. How much slack is in those flexible hoses connecting the indoor and outdoor unit? Are the hoses fully extended once the sill sleeve is fully extended? Thanks!

I could not tell from the video. I recently purchased one and the manual informs us that there are three filters requiring periodic cleaning. The obvious main air filter, a smaller air filter accessed on the rear left side, and a water drain filter accessed on the lower right side. The filter may not have been on the early/original model/design and may have been added after clogging problems. Great video nice to see some of the internals with the covers removed. Great discussion on basic troubleshooting by verifying the pump was getting power and it was not a control or power problem.

Thanks for the vid. Should be helpful to some people! Would love to know which AC components are in the two separate compartments of the unit. I assume the compressor and condenser/fan are on the outside half and the evaporator and evaporator fan are on the inside. @ Wrenches to Riches....Do you know the anatomy of this AC unit? Is this unit much quieter than others since the compressor is on the outside? Thanks again!
@jwhazel
@jwhazel Жыл бұрын
TL;DR - quieter than a normal window AC. But there are some variables. Your assessment is correct on which pieces are on which side. The compressor is actually very quiet to begin with since it's wrapped in a blanket and the oversize condenser fan doesn't make much noise since it's able to run at a low speed. 95% of the inside noise comes from the evap fan on the inside. It *can* be whisper quiet, but of course it doesn't move much air. Crank it up and it moves a lot of air, but then it sounds like any other high-ish speed fan. It's the airflow turbulence and not the motor.

I have had nothing but problems with this pump. It ran fine for 3 months, then after winter I turned it on and it ran good for a month, then it started getting the FL error. The pump just was buzzing, but not pumping. I put in a new pump ($100) and it ran good for 2 days, then I igot a constant clean filter error. Cleaning the filter didn't help, so I flushed the inside water pan inside and all kinds of crap came out. It was like he said in the video. It looked like bits of tissue paper came out, a lot of it. I put it back together and was able to get the clean filter notification to turn off. Time will tell if the problem is fixed and if it will quickly return. I am not sure if I was able to clean it all out. I don't think I will buy another ClearView model. I want one that does not have a pump. Does anyone know what I can pour into the until every now and then to keep it clean. Can't use Chlorox. It will damage rubber parts. Vinegar stinks. So maybe there is a special cleaning fluid I should use. I have kept the filter really clean, so I don't know where all that crap in the inside drain pan came from. Any suggestions?

It overflowed again. So I flushed the collection pan, and still got a lot of crap to come out. I have the feeling that there may have been a label or some kind of sticker inside that gets wet, deteriorates, then floats around and messes up the floats. I was able to flush most of what has been floating around and I'll try it again. I am now keeping a large pan under the unit until I know for sure it is fixed. My wife is about to have a cat because of the wet carpet. It looks like I might have to dismount the unit to be able to remove the bottom to properly clean the collection pan and floats.

I am having this problem too. I injected a lot of water with a squirt bottle and got all kinds of crap flushed out. It happened again and I flushed more scum out. It looks like tissue paper floating around in the water I drained. I think it messes with the float in the collection pan, which keeps the pump from turning on to drain. I am going to run some solution through it to prevent bacterial scum from building up. It may be pieces of a label or sticker left inside during its manufacture that is breaking down. The only way to tell is to completely dismount the unit from the window to get to the collection pan and floats on the bottom for complete cleaning. I may call in a GE technician to clean it, if it doesn't cost so much.

The drain inside is also a port to take out and clean the water filter/screen in it. This is so the pump does not get clogged with junk.

The gap between the wall and my exterior unit is roughly 2 3/4 inches but the unit can be extended to cover wider walls. This may help if you need to clear another object

Would it be possible to finagle this air finagle this air conditioner. Into a window that only opens 11 inches? Like if you were to open it all the way. And tilt the ac back? Does that make sense?

I think I know what you mean and I definitely think it's possible but you'll definitely be sweating at the end. The middle part expands out when you remove the screws which I think would help a lot

@@tommccafferty9643 oh man! I don't know about a 10 inch window. It was tough getting it in an 11 inch. I pretty much had to separate the unit without taking the wires apart. It might be doable. But definitely a pain. If it's your only option. Give it a shot. The 2 sections slide back and forth. If it doesn't work. Package it back up and take it back

I have the same unit. Water builds up on the inside. I have to drain it after every use as the AC compressor would not kick in when there is water present (about 2 cups). I am sure this is not normal. How often do you drain yours or do you have to?
@WrenchesToRiches

I never drain it. The water pumps to the back. It sounds like yours has the same problem that I fixed in this video

@@WrenchesToRiches I'm experiencing the same problem though I am getting that FL code when just a bit of water comes out the front port. Do you feel like the fix was more about cleaning the front sensor or was it more of clearing the dust from the suction hose? Getting to the back of the unit will be a pain.
@WrenchesToRiches

@@erndiggity2 for me, it was definitely the sensor but that doesn't mean you have the same problem

@@WrenchesToRiches For mine, I hear the the weird grumbling noise for a good 30s and then it'll stop w/ an FL error code. If I empty the half ounce of water or so from the front port, it'll work again for anywhere from 15m to a few hours. I was thinking that it might be the pump struggling to gather the water from inside and might just be a dirty sensor since there's not much water in the front? Was going to also take a ladder outside to see how much drains from the plug.

It's a drain on the inside that you unscrew and let the excess water drain out, it's not supposed to drain from the outside portion.

If this is the same model as mine, the (drain) inside has a water filter in it, you are sapose to clean every so often. So that the pump dose not get gunk on it and clogged.
