Good job on this video. I did find one other item not covered in either video. I lifted the coils about an 1” to discover a big chunk of lint blocking the drain (the hose you pointed out). I ran an inspection camera down the hose only to find lint clogged the skinny end of the hose. Highly recommend cleaning and flushing this area too.

Thanks for the tip, I'll add it to the next video.

Clear explanation of how lint gets past the filter starts at 8:46. Thank you for this very clear demonstration, it is much easier to see with the housing opened up. Instead of filling the whole back area with foam, I wonder if you could just wrap a felt grill gasket around the back of the filter where it fits into that gap. This would seal the top, bottom, and sides of the back of the filter. Those grill gaskets are rated for very high heat in an outdoor environment, so they should hold up well in this situation. I have only ever seen them in 1/8in thickness though. Do you think that would be thick enough, considering it only has to fill the gaps on the sides, not the whole space behind the filter?

There are 8 ways to solve this.. Which is the most practical/repeatable is the question

GEs head in the sand on the filter design is wild to me. I’ve been researching this unit for just a handful of days now, and have already learned about the issues with the filter. I was planning to buy not one but two for my home. I might skip it all together now. Insane to ignore this filter issue that people are fixing with foam weather seals.
@retrotechandelectronicsАй бұрын
I’ve followed the foam weather seal fixes. But with the parts out of the machine to review it looks like the rear is the main culprit.

@ the dude that makes the weather seal kits now has a kit that has a big chunk of foam weather seal for the back section.

I use the brushed weather stripping all around the filter and it works great. I didn't use the foam at the back and even with the brushed weather stripping it does accumulate a tiny bit still in the back, but really not a lot at all - after 10 months of use I did the same "power-washing" method (I didn't take off the top, just put the sprayer head in the filter area and angled it, worked fine) and coils look new again. Combined with the brushed weather stripping, cleaning filter after each use and cleaning the lint trap at the bottom every 20 or so loads, I have had zero issues and love this machine. Although, after seeing this video about the back gap I might use the foam now just to close it up a bit more.

@ how did you inspect the coils after cleaning?

From what i heard GE is not going to fix this since they had to build it to comply with some ADA code. I just bought mine and i would like to see a video from you about your fix for this filter problem.
@baconshitАй бұрын
@@justinheavner4573 I agree - but it seems most leakage is at the rear. Sealing that section better wouldn’t make it an issue for the ADA imo.
@justinheavner4573Ай бұрын
@baconshit I agree with you but that's GE reason for the way it is made it's stupid Lol

ADA. Like the disabilities act? Why?
@justinheavner4573Ай бұрын
@retrotechandelectronics Somthing about the filter being able to be pulled out easily. That was GEs stupid reason. GE directly messaged another youtuber and that youtuber asked why the filter is the way it is and they said it's like that in order to be ADA compliant. Than they told that youtuber not to modify it. Even tho they have to know that this is a problem cause everyone is talking about it.

I hope they address that poor filter fitting

@@retrotechandelectronics some other repair guy showed a PM from GE as to why they haven’t put a seal around the edges as it makes it harder to pull out. Again - I’ve been shopping less than a week and I feel like I know everything about this filter already - GE is clearly ignoring this.

Well long story short, did you surmise the problem was caused by a connection that wasn't properly seated?
@retrotechandelectronicsАй бұрын
It was most likely the connection on the back of the panel from my last maintenance

Honestly, I don't think it was your wiring.. If the accelerometer was not working, it would not have registered a balance issue at all. Those dog beds are WAY more than I would ever attempt to fit into a front loader.. I have not had any issues with the type of failures you have unless I overload the machine.. I am not saying that you didn't do anything when you took it apart, but I am saying that it isn't a def win. Did you load it - or did your wife when there were issues? The way she explained the issue in the video was basically here telling you what the issue was she was having.. Could quite possibly be in the way you loaded the dog beds vs how she loaded them....
