Gear 5 Luffy: The Best Transformation Ever

Gear 5 in One Piece is now my favorite transformation in all of Shonen. Monkey D. Luffy has now unlocked a new form that gives him incredible power and there are so many different elements that make it great. I want to talk about what I love about Gear 5, how it affects the story and how it holds up to other transformations. Let's go over the Magic of Gear 5

Gear 5 ("Gear Fifth") is the awakened form of the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which strengthens the user's rubbery body. It also allows the user the ability to manipulate and transform their environment, similar to a Paramecia's awakening.[2] Luffy achieved this ability during his final battle with Kaidou on Onigashima. In this state, Luffy's heartbeat takes on a musical rhythm which has been described by Zunesha as the "Drums of Liberation" (解放のドラム, Kaihō no Doramu?).[5] His hair and clothes (with the exception of his signature straw hat, belt, and sandals) turn white,[6] his eyes glow with red ring-like pupils, and white clouds float around his neck, similar to the clouds of steam that accompany him in Gear 4. His eyebrows also become swirled and billowing. It seems Gear 5 also transforms Luffy's outfit to his pants and sandals that he usually wears as opposed to whatever else he is wearing,[7] which will return upon deactivating Gear 5.[8]

Coming from a casual one piece enjoyer, I didn't know what to really make of Gear 5. Visually, I think it's amazing, but I initially couldn't get behind the cartoony "loony tunes" animation and style of Gear 5. I sat on it for a few days and it finally hit me why the direction Oda took with Gear 5 is pure genius. Making these God's among men, that demand to be taken seriously, look like Saturday Morning Cartoon villains is some of the best shit ever💯

I also think when you look at the things Luffy has been through, especially what happened to Ace, the fact that he is still the representation of freedom and happiness is next level. He truly is an unstoppable force

yooo, you get it, I don't read the manga but ever since I sadly got spoiled the power/what it actually was not just the way it looked, I smiled whenever I just thought about it, the closer it got to getting animated the jollier I got, I couldn't believe it was real, I still kind of can't, it's just perfect and the episodes have been fenomenal, I'll never forget when I went to see it with my friends. thanks for not spoiling the stuff coming up (ik who it is)

I just started reading One Piece on Vol 14. Been such an amazing journey so far and I'm so annoyed I didn't start this earlier. But what made me to start to actually read OP? Gear 5. I looked so unique, it felt contagious. I've been really enjoying the journey so far and I cant wait to digest the story and reach the point of Gear 5! Really Enjoyed this video man!

What’s a hot take you have about Gear5?

It doesn’t make any sense.. It ruined the Gorosei because I used to think they were this mysterious group, highly knowledgeable, strategists etc.. but after Gear 5 reveal they ended up being incompetent. They didn’t even send some assassins to hunt down Luffy in his early years. Not only it did ruined Gorosei but Luffy himself his creativity and character, having this rare, special God devil fruit all along. Luffy cheated his way out on his Pirate journey just to copy Naruto being a chosen one God = everything handed to them from the very start.

I really don't like how people compare gear 5 if it's more iconic than super saiyan when they should be comparing it from a narrative standpoint. Like for example I could say that gear 5 is a better transformation than super saiyan because of how unique it is and how luffys character as a liberator lead up to his ultimate transformation in which he can embrace his own freedom to a whole other level. Super saiyan was a transformation that was well foreshadowed, but the way goku got it was lackluster as death doesn't really matter in dragon ball. Super saiyan is also very basic just changing hair colour and increasing base stats while gear 5 doesn't at all; instead giving luffy a body in which he could use his imagination to his full potential.

it's not like G5 is unbeatable... full health kaido would beat G5, shanks and big mom can probably beat G5 as of now... 5 gorosei can probably beat G5, imo and blackbeard might be able to beat G5, Luffy's Goofy way of fighting is peak one piece action. If you don't like G5 then that must suck for u, lol, cuz he is about to make a pancake out of his final villain and hopefully imu vs luffy will be a fight between two goofy monsters (cartoonish fight), i would love that.@@Blackuno3

u do know that luffy is stronger than zoro without the fruit, right? luffy had a prolonged 1v1 fight against kaido while zoro only damaged kaido once or twice and then fell on his knees, the gap between zoro and fruitless luffy is huge@@Blackuno3
